In 2017, Tallo partnered with SC Future Makers to take a bold step to celebrate academic achievement in STEM fields with the same enthusiasm typically reserved for athletes. SC STEM Signing Day was born, recognizing high school seniors committed to pursuing STEM education and careers.
“We are thrilled to continue the tradition of recognizing outstanding high school seniors from across South Carolina who have committed to pursuing STEM degrees. Our hope for these students is that they will keep their curiosity muscle strong by continuing to ask, ‘why,’ digging into how things work and developing innovative solutions to complex problems.” – Erica Parrott, Director and Chief Engineer of Production Engineering for the 787 Program
Building Momentum Across South Carolina
The numbers tell a powerful story of growth. Since STEM Signing Day’s inception, over 500 students from South Carolina have been recognized for their commitment to STEM. The event has grown from recognizing 34 students in 2017 to celebrating 64 outstanding seniors in 2024.
SC STEM Signing Day has consistently attracted top talent:
- An average of 84 students have been honored each year
- Over 1,500 students have applied to participate since 2017
- Honorees have come from all 46 counties in South Carolina
This widespread participation shows the program’s effectiveness in identifying and celebrating STEM talent regardless of location—from Charleston’s urban center to rural communities in the Upstate.
Industry Leaders Supporting STEM Excellence
“STEM Signing Day was really inspiring to attend. From talking to various students one-on-one, it is clear that the next generation of STEM students are very talented. It was also a very full circle moment for me – I remember taking engineering classes in high school, which is where my passion for my career began.” – Alexis Khalil, a tooling engineer at Boeing SC who attended SC STEM Signing Day 2024
This prestigious event is sponsored by Boeing in partnership with BMW, Michelin, Nucor Corporation, South Carolina Future Makers (SCFM), and South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA). These industry leaders recognize the importance of investing in the next generation of STEM professionals and demonstrate their commitment through this initiative.
