Full-Time Reporting Functions :

Reports to Superintendent of Diocesan Cemeteries Job functions : Maintain cemetery grounds, grass cutting, trimming, removal of trees and shrubs, leaf maintenance, spring clean up, digging foundations, snow removal, assisting with burials and entombment. Must operate small tractor, small truck and lawn mower.

DutiesResponsibilities:

Operation of trucks and payloader (front-end loader). Operation of the push mowers and large mowers (Yazoo/Locke). Trimming and/or removal of cemetery owned trees and shrubs when authorized. Cutting of grass around all areas of the cemetery as required. Removal of snow at cemeteries, Tribunal and current and retired Bishops’ residences, when necessary. Erect tents for burial and prepare the grave for interment. At times manual digging. Dig foundations 3 to 4 feet deep. Cleaning and store all tools and equipment as directed. Performs any work directed by the Superintendent, Foreman or Field Supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned.

Educational Qualifications:

High School Diploma. (preferred)

Other Requirements:

Opportunity to advance includes backhoe training. Must exhibit a high degree of integrity, loyalty, time management skill, dependability and have a strong work ethic. Must have knowledge of grounds, building tools, equipment operations and the ability to perform repairs to minor equipment. The ability to work independently, multi-task and demonstrate competence in all areas of responsibility. Must be able to work with all staff members, co-workers and contractors in a professional manner. Must have a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License. Revocation of PA Driver’s license may result in termination of employment. The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. Physical Requirements:

This position requires heavy physical effort with reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate the different sets of controls while operating the equipment and attachments. The incumbent may be subjected to considerate strain caused by vibration, jerking, and jolting of the equipment over rough surfaces and the need to operate controls in awkward positions. Heavy effort is frequently exercised when performing duties such as tamping, carrying caskets/urns, lifting/moving grave planks, setting headstones, etc. Incumbent must be able to walk on hilly, flat, or rolling terrain. This position requires the employee to lift weights up to 50 lbs. Occasionally items weighing more than 50-lbs. are lifted with assistance from co-workers. Employee may be exposed to noise levels.

Working Conditions:

Perform work indoors and outdoors throughout the year – subject to all weather elements; Full Time position; 5 days per week. The cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. Staff may be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery .
