Off-Park Ranger 2.9 2.9 out of 5 stars McCormick County, SC Job Responsibilities Along the rolling, wooded shoreline of the 71,000-acre Strom Thurmond Reservoir, sits Hickory Knob, a full-service, lakeside South Carolina golf resort and remote state park all rolled into one. Tucked away in a serene, remote location, the parks many amenities and recreational opportunities are a pleasant surprise for many. Hickory Knob operates an 18-hole championship golf course, buffet restaurant, skeet shooting, boat ramp, archery range, meeting facilities and more than 70 lodge-style rooms. This South Carolina golf resort is an ideal location for a family getaway, reunion or a business meeting or retreat.
Job Purpose and Duties:
Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher-level employees. 1) Assists with the administrative activities to include, but not limited to, receiving and documenting revenues, preparing reports and making payments in accordance with standard operating procedures. 2) Assists with the operational activities to include supervising specific areas such as retail sales, day use areas, camping, cabins and other overnight accommodations or special use facilities. 3) Provides a variety of office functions related to callers, correspondence, document file and retrieval system, etc. 4) Performs maintenance and repair activities on buildings and grounds. 5) Performs continuous public relations activities and assists with educational and recreational programming. 6) Enforces park rules and regulations within his/her authority and established policy. 7) Practice and promote teamwork within the State Park Service, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year. Minimum and Additional Requirements Associate degree in Park Management or related field with one (1) year of park ranger experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements:
1) Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 2) Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License. 3) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Ability to work a rotating schedule, to include day and night shifts as well as weekends and holidays.
