General Description The Testing Crew is responsible for conducting testing and inspection of water, sewer, and storm drainage systems to ensure compliance with project specifications, regulatory standards, and industry best practices. This team plays a critical role in verifying system integrity before final acceptance, working closely with pipe crews, project managers, inspectors, and engineers. The Testing Crew must have a strong understanding of pipe materials, testing methods, and safety procedures to ensure efficient and accurate results.

Key Duties Testing & Inspection:

Perform air, hydrostatic, vacuum, and deflection tests on installed pipes. Conduct mandrel tests, pressure testing, and infiltration/exfiltration evaluations. Ensure pipes are properly cleaned, sealed, and prepped before testing procedures. Identify and report leaks, obstructions, or structural deficiencies. Work with engineers and inspectors to validate compliance with industry regulations and project specifications.

Compliance & Documentation:

Maintain detailed records of all test results and submit reports to project managers. Follow industry regulations and municipal, state, and federal requirements for testing procedures. Ensure all testing equipment is calibrated, functional, and properly maintained. Assist in the preparation of compliance documentation for project approval and acceptance.

Site Coordination & Communication:

Collaborate with supervisors, pipe crews, and inspectors to ensure timely completion of testing requirements. Communicate test results, corrective actions, and compliance status to the appropriate teams. Assist in troubleshooting and retesting failed sections to ensure project specifications are met.

General Responsibilities:

Maintain a safe and organized work environment, ensuring proper use of equipment and adherence to safety protocols. Assist pipe crews with installation support, safety procedures, and final testing phases. Perform additional duties as needed within other construction crafts.

Qualification Requirements Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED preferred. 2+ years of experience in pipe testing, utility installation, or construction inspections preferred. Experience with pressure testing, air testing, and vacuum testing methods.

Skills & Competencies:

Strong knowledge of pipe materials, fittings, and sealing techniques. Ability to operate pressure gauges, vacuum pumps, and other testing equipment. Basic understanding of construction blueprints, plans, and specifications. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Physical Demands Frequent standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods during an 8+ hour shift. Ability to lift 50-90 lbs frequently and up to 150 lbs with assistance. Work in trenches, confined spaces, and uneven terrain. Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and trench boxes as needed. Maintain constant awareness of job site activities and moving equipment. Work Environment Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Exposure to high noise levels, dust, grease, and construction debris. Regular work near heavy equipment and moving machinery. May handle construction substances, including form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready-mixed concrete.
