Job Description

General Manager, Steel Erection and Construction, New Haven, Connecticut Gryphon Oakwood is currently working on a General Manager role in structural steel erection and construction in New Haven, Connecticut. You will be responsible for leading all sales, estimation and operations.

Qualifications:

10+ years of progressive experience in structural steel erection, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or general management role. Strong background in both operations and business development. Deep understanding of steel erection practices, safety compliance, and construction project management. Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple large-scale projects. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Strong financial acumen and experience with P&L responsibility. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Equivalent industry experience accepted.

Key Responsibilities:

Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the company’s market share in structural steel erection. Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, developers, engineers, and architects. Lead the proposal, estimating, and bid process in collaboration with the estimating team. Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions. Track and report on sales pipeline and market trends. Oversee the successful execution of all structural steel projects from award to closeout. Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to ensure quality, safety, schedule, and budget objectives are met. Ensure compliance with all safety standards, OSHA regulations, and internal protocols. Implement and optimize operational systems and workflows to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasting, and P&L responsibility for the division. Analyze project performance and drive cost-control initiatives. Contribute to long-term strategic planning and business growth initiatives. Recruit, lead, and mentor a team of project managers, estimators, field supervisors, and support staff. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and teamwork. Provide training and development to grow internal talent and support retention.
