Directional Drill Operator Job Summary:

The Directional Drill Operator at Regal Utility Services Group is responsible for the operation of directional drilling equipment to install underground telecommunications cables and conduits. This role involves planning and executing drilling operations, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and maintaining equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of underground utility construction and be capable of operating drilling equipment in various terrains and conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
Operation of Equipment:

Operate directional drilling equipment, excavators, plows, and related machinery. Monitor drill progress and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy. Perform pre-operation and post-operation inspection of equipment.

Planning and Execution:

Review project plans, blueprints, and job specifications to determine the best drilling approach. Locate and verify the positions of underground utilities before drilling. Implement and maintain proper bore path and depth as per job requirements.

Safety and Compliance:

Follow all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe work environment. Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding underground utility installations.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance:

Identify and resolve any operational issues with drilling equipment. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment. Report major equipment issues to maintenance personnel or supervisors.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of drilling operations, including daily logs and reports. Document any incidents or deviations from planned operations. Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients.

Team Collaboration:

Work closely with crew members to ensure efficient and successful project completion. Provide guidance and training to junior operators or laborers as needed. Participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning and review sessions.
