MDA recruits new companies to Mississippi, helps existing companies expand and provides support to foster growth and new opportunities in a variety of areas, including energy, small and minority business, trade, film, retiree recruitment and more. Additionally, MDA attracts millions of visitors to the state each year through Visit Mississippi, the tourism division of the agency. MDA also supports pass-through funding and provides support for a variety of grant programs and non-profits, such as Innovate Mississippi and Mississippi Main Street Association. About the Position The Economic Development Specialist I will serve in the Film Office. This division develops and supports the film industry in Mississippi and administers the Mississippi Motion Picture, and Episodic Incentive Programs. It also coordinates the on-location production of feature films, television projects, documentaries, commercials, and video games. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with initiatives to encourage economic development through filmed projects in the State of Mississippi as outlined by the Film Office director
- Respond and disseminate information as requested to local units of government and / or their representatives and the general public to assist in economic development related to filmed productions, special projects, and events.
- Respond to inquiries regarding filming in Mississippi as related to locations, crew personnel, vendors, general research
- Assist with research for location scouts and special projects
- Assist with securing and managing film and media productions located in the state
- Integral knowledge and management of processes related to the Mississippi Motion Picture & Episodic Incentive Programs including guidelines, regulations, applications and statutes
- Basic accounting and management of paperwork and processes related to Film Office budget and purchasing workflow procedures within the agency
- Manage project and program file
- Manage office supplies inventory and related needs of the Film Office
- Communicate with other MDA divisions and bureaus for internal processes
- Have working knowledge and assist with databases of crew, vendors, locations, and project management
- Travel in-state as needed to assist Film Office staff with events, location scouts, or special projects
- Assist with data analysis that supports enhancing the state’s film and media industry
- Attend training programs, seminars, and special meetings as directed
- Assist with special projects as assigned by the director
- Be able to communicate policies, procedures and program requirements; possess the ability to make sound decisions and the ability to work effectively and competently with people
- Represent the agency and division with professionalism both on the job and in the community
- Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the director.
