VP Research Responsibilities:

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Pre-Award Grants Specialist to join our high-achieving team at the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP). As an R1: Doctoral Universities- Very high research activity institution, we take pride in our substantial growth in research and development expenditures, exceeding $205 million in FY 2022, doubling over the past seven years. Reporting to the ORSP Manager, the Pre-Award Grants Specialist will play a vital role in supporting our faculty, staff, and administration. You will collaborate closely with our academic community to identify funding opportunities, develop compelling research proposals, and align projects with funder guidelines and the University’s strategic plan. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the timely and accurate submission of research proposals to external funding sources.

Responsibilities:

Provide essential support and guidance to faculty and research staff in preparing internal and agency-specific proposal documents for timely submission.
Carefully review and evaluate proposal submission requirements in grants and contract documents to ensure compliance with policies and agency regulations.
Take independent responsibility for ensuring that proposal submissions and pre- award management adhere to campus policies and agency requirements.
Facilitate the completion and approval of internal routing documents.
Collaborate with faculty to develop, review, critique, and edit proposal narratives and budgets.
Contribute to the drafting and writing of specific proposal sections, such as Data Management Plans and Mentoring Plans.
Review resource planning with principal investigators to ensure effective utilization of available resources.
Conduct workshops on proposal development for the faculty to enhance their grant-writing skills.

Key Objectives:

Review and assess proposals and proposal budgets submitted by faculty and staff for effectiveness and compliance with funding agency and university guidelines.
Collaborate with faculty and staff during proposal preparation and the institutional review stage.
Present proposals to upper-level administration for final approval before submission.
Submit grant proposals, both electronically and otherwise, as appropriate.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree
At least 2- 3 years of experience in finance, grant, development, or program management or administration; personnel or organizational management; document review, preparation, and compliance; community development; fundraising.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with funding agency regulations, policies, and guidelines for research grants. Understanding of the university’s strategic plan and research priorities.
