Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly strategic and versatile communications professional to serve as Chief of Staff / Director of Communications, reporting directly to the CEO. This role will function as a trusted advisor and key partner to the CEO, responsible for driving internal communications, coordinating cross-functional initiatives, and managing high-level executive messaging. While the VP of Government and Public Relations leads external and government-facing communications, this role is focused on internal alignment, executive storytelling, strategic content development, and enhancing organizational communication from within. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator with experience in the power or construction industry, digital content strategy, and an understanding of Department of Energy (DOE) language and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Executive & Internal Communications Serve as a communication and operational partner to the CEO, helping prioritize initiatives and maintain alignment across departments. Craft internal messaging and executive communications, including staff memos, internal updates, town hall content, CEO speeches, and Board materials. Coordinate communication workflows across leadership to ensure consistency and clarity of messaging companywide. Strategic Coordination Act as a cross-functional liaison for key initiatives, helping departments stay aligned with strategic priorities. Track follow-up items and decision points from executive meetings and ensure timely progress. Lead special projects or strategic priorities on behalf of the CEO. Content Development & Brand Messaging Create compelling, high-quality written content including website copy, executive statements, internal newsletters, and strategic presentations. Support the CEO in thought leadership and company visibility efforts (e.g., conference presentations, articles, digital profiles). Website & Digital Oversight Oversee the development and maintenance of website content and structure, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment with organizational priorities. Coordinate with designers, developers, or vendors as needed to maintain a strong digital presence. Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support Work closely with the VP of Government and Public Relations to ensure alignment between internal messaging and external communications strategies. Coordinate with department heads to help shape internal messaging and leadership communication initiatives.
Qualifications:
7+ years of experience in strategic communications, internal communications, executive support, or chief of staff roles. Background in the power, construction, or energy sectors strongly preferred. Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple platforms and audiences. Experience working with or within the Department of Energy (DOE) or federal energy-focused agencies is a plus. Demonstrated experience managing cross-departmental initiatives or executive-level communications. Strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills. Proficiency in content management systems (CMS), website editing, and digital communication tools.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Administration, or a related field. Experience in fast-paced, executive-facing roles, particularly in complex, mission-driven organizations. Familiarity with stakeholder communications in the energy, construction, or public infrastructure space.

$150,000.00 – $200,000.00 per year
