The Driver & Warehouse Assistant plays a critical role as a front-line representative of MEND, interacting with our network of pantry partners and community organizations. Reporting into the Operations Manager, the Driver & Warehouse Assistant will drive MEND vehicles for food pickups and deliveries, help manage inventory and support related warehouse duties. The work will generally be performed at MEND’s Fresh Food Hub in Orange, NJ, with deliveries within and around Essex County, NJ (and occasional driving shifts beyond Essex County to partner farms and organizations). This is a full-time position of 40 hours a week. The schedule may vary slightly from week to week, but will generally require Monday to Friday availability from 8am to 4pm. Key Responsibilities Driving MEND’s cargo van (affectionately named “Sweet Pea”) and/or box truck (“Sweet Potato”) between the MEND Hub and member food pantries, food donors or distributors, farms, and other locations for pickups and deliveries; Loading and unloading food and other essentials; Assisting with overall inventory management, including Organizing and stocking shelves; Pulling and staging food and other essentials for pickup and delivery; and Tracking and reporting inventory.

Other duties include:

Scheduling and completing pickups of donated items; Keeping the Hub clean and organized; Setting up/breaking down before and after Hub events; and Other duties as assigned to support the team. Qualifications The Driver & Warehouse Assistant will be a core member of our operations team. We are looking for a collegial, collaborative teammate who prioritizes safety.

Required qualifications are:

Clean driving record with a valid driver’s license At least one year’s experience driving vans or other large vehicles Able to lift and load/unload at least 50-pound packages regularly Excellent teamwork and communication skills Excellent organizational and time management skills Preferred qualifications include: Customer service experience Conversational fluency in Spanish or Haitian Creole Computer literacy, such as data entry skills A belief that all people are entitled to access fresh & healthy food to achieve their optimal health Additional Notes Occasional evening and weekend work may be offered as an option for paid overtime.
