General Summary:
Responsible for all aspects of college budgeting and forecasting, including complex technical and analytical work necessary to prepare multi-year budget forecasting models, create and monitor the annual operating budget and capital budget, review budget results and operational information, and advise senior management decision-makers. Reports to the vice president for finance and administration and works with co-workers, staff, faculty, students, outside contacts and vendors.
Essential Job Functions:
Leads the annual budget development process, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and fiscal sustainability. Oversees multi-year financial planning, forecasting, and scenario analysis to support strategic decision-making. Provides financial modeling and data-driven insights to support executive leadership and operational planning. Monitors and reports on budget performance, identifying risks and recommending corrective actions. Establishes and maintains budget policies, procedures, and systems that promote transparency and accountability. Collaborates with deans, directors, and department heads to build capacity for sound financial management across the institution. Develops appropriate measures to test internal controls, conducts tests, and recommends improvements when necessary. Works with college cabinet and board of trustee committees as appropriate. Trains appropriate college employees on budget process, proper use of budget report systems, and other matters as needed. As assigned by vice president for finance and administration, serves on committees and completes special projects. Works with college cabinet and board of trustee committees as appropriate. Manages Contract Database leveraging external purchasing resources, where necessary, to generate savings.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related occupational field of study.
Experience:
Minimum of 7-10 years relevant work experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Thorough understanding of the accounting principles, cycles, and process. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, knowledge of accounting software packages and general office software. Mastery of public speaking and presentation skills, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and delegating duties as appropriate. Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to think and work independently and as a member on diverse teams. Demonstrated highest ethical standards and ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
Other:
Irregular hours are required on an occasional basis.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and occasional moving of light objects. Work is performed in an office.
