JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Terminal Operator is responsible for operating equipment for delivery and receipt of petroleum products, vegetable oils and chemicals into and out of storage tanks.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum requirements:
Education:
o High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Specific Knowledge:
o This is an entry-level position.
- Certification, licenses, registrations: o A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver’s license are required.
o Satisfactorily obtaining or already possessing a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is a condition of employment. A TWIC card is obtained by submitting an application, background check, and having fingerprints taken. o If the employee is subject to license or certification requirements or training as stipulated by local, state, or federal agencies or the Company, now or in the future, compliance is required under this job description.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Understands and uses personal protective equipment, safe work practices, environmental stewardship practices and teamwork.
- Identifies hazards and potential risks and assist operations staff with eliminating or mitigating those hazards.
- Informs Terminal Management of HSSE-Q related matters.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- Daily operational duties include (but are not limited to) manual loading and unloading of railcars, trucks, ocean-going tankers, and tank-to-tank transfers. All operations must be conducted in a safe and diligent manner.
- Operator will monitor products for quality as required by customer. Manually operate valves on tanks and/or pump valves during normal operating conditions. Opens/closes tank fill line valves prior to and after each delivery on storage tanks, which may involve either manually operated or motorized equipment.
- Starts and stops pumps at terminal.
- Checks above ground tanks for storage capacity by taking line-gauge and/or reading automation system.
- Samples both incoming and outgoing product as required by customer.
- Calculates/monitors storage capacity on tankage.
- Installs or removes man-ways, blind flanges, portable hoses, pipe, and pumps as required.
- Required to operate forklift and/or other motorized equipment once OSHA and other applicable training requirements are fulfilled.
- Maintains a written list of shift activities and accomplishments.
- Inspects entire tank farm, pumping and receiving equipment and loading racks (where applicable) during each shift in order to identify any operational problems.
- Monitors loading rack operation through use of telephone and/or cameras.
- Performs troubleshooting of loading rack printers, pumps, automated loading equipment and motors.
- Assist in training of drivers in loading utilizing Chemserve’ s automated truck loading system.
- Inspects equipment for excessive seal leakage, noise, proper oil levels, etc.
- Notifies supervisor of equipment abnormalities or failures.
- Performs duties such as painting of piping and buildings with hand equipment; weed control and landscaping functions; housekeeping activities such as mopping, dusting, sweeping, scrubbing, and sanitizing of office, rest room, and shop areas; washing down of station piping and pumps with soap and water as needed, and sweeping parking areas.
- Operates Company vehicle to run errands, pick up equipment and supplies and transport the same as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety.
All operators will be given ample time, materials, and guidelines to complete all training requirements as specified in the annual training manual/matrix. Training may be completed in a variety of means, e.g., computer-based, classroom, on-the-job, etc. It is the operator’s responsibility to ensure that his/her individual required training is completed in a timely fashion and as required by all applicable rules and regulations (city, county, state, federal, etc.).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Employee must be physically capable of completing and satisfying all training requirements as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies and/or Company Policy.
- Work is labor intensive at times and involves climbing tank ladders and stairs, and operating large valves.
- Exposure to smells and fumes associated with chemical and petroleum products.
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work 8-hour day/swing/graveyard shifts, however, the shifts do not rotate and are assigned on a seniority basis. Operator could be required to work as much as 300+ overtime hours per year including weekends and holidays. Overtime could be day or night and is assigned on a seniority basis.
- Position subject to 24-hour call-out, including nights, weekends, and holidays and may require working alone.
