Job Description:

Starting wage is based on experience and shift. In addition to a base wage, every associate is eligible for quarterly profit sharing!! Various shifts are available and off shifts include additional shift differential pay. Prototype Specialist will be instrumental in our new product development cycle. The Prototype Specialist will work to support the Product Engineering team by providing prototype manufacturing in a team based, fast paced, dynamic environment. While ensuring quality, accuracy, and on-time delivery. The Prototyping Specialist must adhere to the Ruger core values of Integrity, Respect, Innovation, and Teamwork.

Tasks:

Understanding of CNC programming, G-Code and M-Code, machine tool setup and integration, tooling, macro-programming, fixture and gage design. Experience with component machining processes including 3, 4, and 5 axis CNC machining centers, Mill-Turn, EDM, precision grinding processes, managing and controlling extremely tight tolerances, 3D printing, CAD (Solid works), CAM (MasterCAM/Camworks), Metrology (CMM, in-line gaging, surface plate, air gaging, etc.), and GD&T application. Perform difficult CNC Machinist work including progressive machining of a variety of parts and different materials where very close tolerances must be maintained; Effective at planning, prioritizing and organizing tasks and activities with the ability to deal with competing demands within specified timescales. Team player who knows how to lead, follow and sometimes just listen. Hands on technical knowledge of metal forming, machine design and machine fabrication is a plus. Troubleshoot and understand CNC programs and processes. Must be able to apply much of the above independently, without guidance, on a daily basis with a self-starter mentality. Perform routine maintenance as per daily machine checklist and adhere to PM schedule. Participate in and sustain 5S within Process Development Area. Effectively communicate with product engineering team about timelines, material selections, etc.

Responsibilities:

Prototyping and MFG and Design Part Creation

  • Firearms Design Configuration
  • Efficient CNC Machine Shop Integration
  • Design, construction, integration of CNC fixturing
  • Successful part creation
  • Tooling and gaging selection required in prototyping of high quality gun component parts
  • Provide technical manufacturing direction for Design Engineers
  • Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology including metal cutting and fixture design
Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be self-motivated, of high integrity, and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Other requirements and considerations include:

Associates degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or Engineering Technology preferred; 2 – 10+ years practical manufacturing experience; CAD/CAM experience; strong knowledge of setting up and operating CNC equipment; strong knowledge of manufacturing one-off parts. Strong knowledge of fixture & gauge design use; knowledge of GD&T; strong communication proficiency, organizational, presentation and problem solving/analysis skills.

Additional Requirements:

Must be able to successfully pass a drug and background screen.
