The Visual Arts Specialist provides creative support and instruction to all youth in the program, both on-site and off-site. The role focuses on fostering personal and community expression through visual arts and creative projects. The specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and delivering a dynamic visual arts curriculum that includes drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and digital art. This position collaborates with staff, schools, and community partners to create engaging art experiences that encourage artistic exploration and skill development.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, maintain, and implement a written plan for the effective delivery of the Visual Arts program, ensuring that programming is innovative, member-focused, and culturally responsive. Serve as the primary planner, supervisor, coordinator, and instructor for visual arts activities and workshops, including hands-on art classes, pop-up projects, and community art exhibits. Curate and manage art supplies and materials, ensuring safe and creative use of resources. Inspire youth to explore various art forms while fostering creative expression, critical thinking, and personal growth. Collaborate with the program coordinator and community partners to plan and execute art events, exhibitions, and partnerships that extend learning beyond the club. Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, schools, and community members to enhance program reach and support.

RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:

Maintain close contact with club staff (both professional and volunteer) and the Operations Team to share information, resolve issues, and discuss program strategies. Work closely with the Unit Director to ensure that program goals and expectations are met.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role is primarily based in an indoor club environment but may include outdoor or gallery settings for special projects or exhibitions. Regularly required to talk and listen in a lively, creative environment. Duties may involve standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping; frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must possess specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. No personal protective equipment is required; mileage reimbursement is provided for travel outside the assigned counties.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Minimum age of 18; a high school diploma or GED is required; post-secondary art or education coursework is preferred. A minimum of two years’ experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising youth activities is required. Strong artistic skills and the ability to teach various art forms to diverse groups. Proven ability to work creatively and collaboratively, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must possess the ability to operate a personal vehicle and be willing to travel to training sessions and club events. Ability to maintain confidentiality, work flexible hours including evenings when needed, and manage multiple priorities effectively.

PROGRAM FUNCTIONS

Enter and maintain member tracking information using Vision software or other data systems. Communicate efficiently with all staff, parents, and community members regarding program details and updates. Assist in managing program supplies and ensuring the art space is organized and conducive to creative learning. Support overall program flow and help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the facility. Perform other duties as assigned by the Unit Director.

ADMINISTRATIVE

Prepare and maintain detailed program statistics and reports for internal review. Report all member, volunteer, and staff injuries promptly to the directors. Undertake other administrative tasks as required by the Unit Director.
