Job Description

DUI Instructor 3.2 3.2 out of 5 stars 1811 Crystal Lake Drive, Lakeland, FL 33801 Position Description This is a certified teaching position responsible for delivery of DUI, services in accordance with the rules and procedures established by the Florida DHSMV and Florida Administrative Code (Chapter 15A-10). Individuals in this position perform specific duties related to the instruction of persons served who have particular problems with regard to DUI involvement, with an emphasis on subsequent treatment and rehabilitation. Instructors, though part-time employees, function as a member of the DUI program by maintaining contact with other DUI staff on an as needed basis. Position Expectation In keeping with the mission and core values of Tri-County Human Services, all persons served, stakeholders, and fellow employees will be treated with dignity , respect, and shown sensitivity to their cultural diversity. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Conducts classes regarding the affects of alcohol/substance use on driving skills, physical health, family and social life, employment, etc. Level I and Level II instructors are provided a state approved comprehensive curriculum guide for instruction. The instructor shall provide persons served with either the state approved Level I workbook or state approved Level II handouts The Level I DUI curriculum requires ability to deliver information to persons served with a didactic approach, encourage persons served to interact with information relevant to course materials, knowledgeable use of group dynamics, and skillful use of visual aids. Level II places emphasis on group interaction with less structure in delivering the information. Group facilitation skills are utilized to assist individuals in taking a close look at the role alcohol/substances have played in their lives. Talks with persons served exploring problems, answering questions and assisting them with development of a plan to avoid further alcohol/drug related problems. Communicates with evaluators, support staff and supervisors providing and/or receiving information as necessary that may assist with consensual decisions regarding the evaluation, treatment sequence and referrals of persons served. Promotes and assists in the development of plans and resources directed toward upgrading the quality of services provided to clients. Assists in the maintenance of the film/video library by frequent reporting of needs regarding the videos/DVD’s & equipment to assure they are kept in good condition and updated, as needed. Performs other reasonable and related duties as assigned. Minimum Training and Experience Instructor shall possess a bachelor’s degree in human services, criminal justice, adult or secondary education, traffic safety, or nursing. They shall possess a minimum of four thousand hours of experience in human services, criminal justice, education, traffic safety or medical care. The experience requirement may be satisfied by direct service delivery, administration, or teaching. Must attend pre-service/recertification seminars necessary to acquire and maintain State certification as a DUI Instructor according to State of Florida statutes for a DHSMV approved DUI program.
