Swim Instruction Specialist (Evening/Weekend) 2.3 2.3 out of 5 stars 2105 NC Highway 54, Durham, NC 27713 We are a premier swim school that believes in providing the highest quality, cutting edge swim instruction and compensating our staff accordingly. Swim Instructors at PhD Swim School teach back to back classes, 15 or 30 minutes per class with 1-2 students per class. We focus on survival swim instruction to infants, toddlers and young children as well as excellence in competitive stroke instruction. Swim instructors work in small, 88-90•F pools and use our proven curriculum to assess each student’s level and improve their survival skills, stroke technique, independence in the water, and confidence. We are looking for a long-term fit to join our team who is mature, reliable, and excited about learning the best ways to teach children to swim! This position is a great fit for outgoing individuals who enjoy working with young children and their families in a fast-paced environment. Building lasting relationships with our young students and their families is a key part of success in this position, as well as the ability to connect with each individual child and tailor our curriculum to their needs. Our brand is built on providing the highest quality swim instruction, and we are looking for positive and energetic Swim Instructors who are eager to learn and improve their independent swim teaching skills, in cooperation with a supportive leadership team. This is a long-term, part-time position with available shifts of approximately 3-6 hours per day, 3-5 days per week (approximately 8-25 hours per week total). We are currently looking for folks to start in April of 2025.

Shift will be as follows:
Monday:

3:30-7:30

PM Friday:

3PM-7

PM Saturday:

10AM-3PM We are looking for candidates who desire to work with us year-round, i.e. not summers only or living elsewhere during school breaks. We are happy to work around college class schedules and encourage students who live locally year-round and want to work year-round to apply! We offer fun and rewarding physically-active part-time work where you will see your students’ progress each week and improve their confidence, competence, and safety in and around water. This would be an ideal fit for a parent, nanny, graduate student, babysitter etc looking to make a difference in children’s lives. After completion of paid comprehensive training ($20/hr during training ) , Swim Instructors will teach classes independently but will work alongside other instructors. When teaching your own classes you will start at $20.00/hr and earn regular raises as you increase your teaching skills and abilities. You must be a strong communicator with children and their families, have a positive attitude, and like to be part of a team.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Confirm your availability and scheduling with the Administrative and Front Desk teams before the start of each 8-week session. We value schedule consistency session to session! Complete and pass our comprehensive swim instructor training. Teach private swim lessons according to your schedule each session while following the proper PhD Swim School curriculum as detailed in your training. Arrive on time to each shift dressed appropriately for swim teaching. Have a positive, nurturing demeanor with your students and ensure to the best of your ability that they have a positive experience in each class while learning and improving skills. Communicate with parents briefly at the end of each class providing feedback about their students in a positive manner. Keep the work area neat and clean, and place teaching items back in their homes after use. If leaving a shift at the end of the day, assist Front Desk staff on duty with closing. Communicate promptly and professionally with the Administrative team if an emergency arises that prevents you from teaching an assigned shift. Clean up after yourself in the staff room, pool area, locker room, etc. Accurately log work hours in Jackrabbit as directed by the Administrative team. Log student’s progress toward skill completion in Jackrabbit. Attend training clinics and staff meetings as assigned Have a positive, helpful attitude and be willing to pitch in as needed if you have a student absent and an unexpected schedule break.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 2 years experience working with and/or parenting young children (0-6 years old) At least 21 years old with reliable access to transportation Ability to complete and pass our comprehensive swim instructor training. A strong desire to improve the lives of young children and build positive relationships with their families through drowning prevention education Must be very outgoing with a warm, personable demeanor, and comfortable in a busy environment with a moderate noise level. Ability to be physically active in a warm, chlorinated pool for up to 5 hours at a time. Ability to work in a warm, humid environment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to learn and use our team communication software, Flock and Jackrabbit Ability to learn new skills quickly, receive and apply feedback, and communicate respectfully with both superiors and coworkers. Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy Ability to pass a background check Vaccinated against Covid-19 or willing to do so by the first day of work, and willing to wear a mask properly at all times while required by PhD Swim School.
