Background:

Kaleideum was formed in July 2016 as result of the merger of SciWorks and The Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem. Kaleideum is expecting to move into a single location, located in downtown Winston-Salem in February of 2024. The mission of the Museum is: Inspiring wonder, curiosity, and lifelong learning in our children and community through interactive play and discovery. As a merged entity, we spark the imagination and ignite the intellectual curiosity of our visitors by developing exhibits and programming that fuse STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), literacy, and the arts into an integrated approach to learning. In all our endeavors, we seek to be strong partners with our families, schools, and community members as we prepare future generations for lifelong learning and success.

Position Summary:

This role is a hands-on, guest-facing position that brings the museum to life for families, students, and campers. The Education & Engagement Technology Specialist will lead activities, demonstrations, and games focused on robotics and technology. Responsibilities vary daily and include engaging with visitors, setting up and cleaning activity spaces, and ensuring all technology is working properly. This position reports to the Senior Director of Engagement and helps create an outstanding museum experience. During the summer, the role also supports tech-focused camp programs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Deliver Engaging Tech-Based Experiences Facilitate robotics and technology-focused demonstrations, camps, field trips, and public programs for children, families, and adults. Maintain Equipment and Materials Oversee robotics kits and technology tools, including software updates, repairs, and inventory management. Collaborate for Program Excellence Work closely with the Education & Engagement team to develop and deliver high-quality, cohesive programming. Ensure Safety and Cleanliness Uphold all safety protocols, maintain clean and organized learning spaces, and support a secure environment for all participants. Provide Exceptional Guest Service Foster a welcoming, responsive, and supportive atmosphere for visitors of all ages. Encourage Exploration and Creativity Create an environment that promotes curiosity, hands-on learning, and playful discovery. Support Department Needs Perform additional tasks as requested by the Senior Director of Engagement.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Experience:

Some college course work/or comparable work experience in an appropriate field such as education or STEAM-related field preferred. High school degree/GED required. Experience with a variety of LEGO robotics, Minecraft, or other educational robotics/coding kits. 1 or more years’ experience in an educational setting working with children; previous experience in a museum or non-profit environment a plus. Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification. Willingness to work with children with special needs. (

visual impairments, diabetes, allergies, autism, etc.) Experience managing staff preferred.

Essential Physical Functions:
