Nutrition Outreach and Education Specialist Position Available In Broome, New York

Nutrition Outreach and Education Specialist Family Enrichment Network, Inc. 24 Cherry Street, Johnson City, NY 13790 The Nutrition Outreach Specialist will develop and implement comprehensive recruitment activities for potentially eligible Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Broome County applicants.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree in Human Services or related field and experience connecting clients with needed resources and good awareness of other community agencies and services. Demonstrated experience in initiating and sustaining outreach programs. Job requires traveling within the area served by the program. Must have valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field.

General Duties:

Follows all agency administrative and programmatic policies and procedures. Assists in ensuring the agency meets all federal, state, local, rules, regulations and licensing requirements. Follows all aspects of the agency personnel polices and procedures. Immediately reports child abuse to supervisor or appropriate staff person. Actively supports agency mission and philosophy.

Essential Duties:

Develop and maintain positive relationships with Broome County

DSS SNAP

Case Managers. Develop and implement comprehensive recruitment and outreach programs for SNAP eligible population. Assist in promoting SNAP benefits for Broome County residents. Conducts outreach programs designed to inform eligible recipients of the benefits of SNAP and meets with interested individuals. Conducts presentations to community groups and agencies to educate public. Provide assistance and appropriate referrals to support the application to SNAP benefits and other food programs and resources in Broome County. Provide advocacy at DSS for potential and existing SNAP recipients. Visit food pantries, mobile food van, libraries, WIC, health fair, and other community locations to recruit participants. Coordinate and develop materials to promote participation in SNAP (e.g. newsletters, brochures, promotional program materials) as required by hunger Solutions New York. Maintains prompt and accurate records per Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) guidelines. Prepares reports as needed monthly and quarterly. Attends NOEP meetings and other related in-services in order to keep current on new regulations and trends. Operates office equipment as needed. Keeps agency equipment in good working order (cell phone, GPS system, etc.) In accordance with Family Enrichment Network’s “team” philosophy, the person filling this position may occasionally be required to carryout or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed on this job description.
