Job Description
New Heights Charter School is Massachusetts’ only public school that involves all grades (6-12) in the Early College approach. Nearly all our 11th and 12th graders are full-time students on a college campus with younger students earning college credits at the school. You will join a committed, creative team of educators who provide academic and social-emotional support to young people coming from high-need backgrounds ensuring they are college and career ready. We support our staff with a wide array of professional development opportunities and coaching.
As a member of the Academic Leadership Team, will take a lead role in the development and fine tuning of our curriculum, instructional protocols and procedures, observations and evaluations, school policies, and enrichment activities. At New Heights, we respect and honor all community members, their diverse backgrounds, knowledge, and experiences.
Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer, the Associate Principal will assist the CAO and Principal in the overall administration of the educational programs by overseeing the implementation of a high-level, standards-based instructional program and learning environment from early high school to early college. The AP promotes close working relationships with parents, students, and staff and keeps the CAO and Principal informed about emerging issues.

Instructional Leadership
Assist the CAO and Principal in providing exemplary leadership to all school community members to achieve outstanding performance in preparing each student for college
Assist the CAO and Principal in developing and communicating strategic school systems, culture, and vision, and building a plan to achieve that vision
Assist the CAO and Principal in leading all aspects of Data-Driven Instruction (DDI), Leading Professional Development (PD) and Observation & Feedback (OF)
Assist the CAO and Principal in implementing effective assessment systems and using data to inform decisions; curriculum development and assessment; and ensure consistency within the school program and alignment with state and other rigorous standards
Teacher Coaching & Evaluation (Math/Science)
Assist the Principal in providing school-wide leadership and the Executive Director in any directed district-related responsibilities
Conduct daily teacher observations and provide real-time feedback to move the needle on student achievement in conjunction with grade-level and/or instructional leaders

Coach instructional leaders in coaching and providing effective instructional observations and feedback to teachers.
Assist the CAO in leading faculty to ensure that all staff are providing well-managed and rigorous daily lessons, reasonable and effective daily homework, and productive after school tutoring
Assist the CAO in holding teachers accountable for meeting a high bar for student performance including requirements for special education accommodations and IEP modifications in partnership with the Special Education Team
Support grade-level leads and instructional leads in creating and implementing effective,
Be willing to Co-Teach or Lead at least one class, as it relates to Math and/or Science to model high quality instruction.
Cultural Leadership
Assist the Principal in building a joyful and rigorous school culture
Assist the Principal in fostering consistency in academic and behavioral expectations
Assist the Principal in collaborating with school staff to support students’ academic and socio-emotional development
Ensure that traditions and rituals that support the school’s early college mission are built and maintained, grade by grade, year to year
Support staff to ensure the effectiveness of after-school enrichment programs
Support staff to ensure a positive, safe, and structured culture of high expectations
Assist the CAO and other instructional leaders in teaching staff members in appraising the performance of all students
Assist the CAO and the Whole Child Study Team in the coordination, delivery, and supervision of special education and student services
Assist in the supervision of students in the cafeteria(s), halls, bus area(s) and other locations where students congregate, when needed.
Make disciplinary judgments for students; assign detentions or other appropriate disciplinary measures, when appropriate.
When involved, keep accurate records of student disciplinary action and report the same to the principal
Communicate regularly with families, ensuring they are kept involved with and held accountable for their children’s performance and correspond about school policies, trips, and events
Respond to family concerns promptly and effectively
