Assistant Principal Job Description
Sacred Heart STEM School (SHSS), an integral part of Sacred Heart Parish, is a Catholic, coeducational institution
serving scholars from Preschool (ages 2.9-5) through grade 8 in Roslindale Massachusetts. It is seeking a highly
qualified instructional leader to serve as assistant principal. Sacred Heart STEM School offers scholars a challenging
academic program through the lens of Faith which allows all scholars to realize their God given talents.
The assistant principal of Sacred Heart STEM School supports the principal in the spiritual, instructional, and
administrative leadership of the institution, and assists in the responsibility of the effective operation of the school
as a Catholic educational institution. He/she assists the primary agent for fostering an environment which
cultivates Faith formation, academic growth and excellence, as well as a culture of hope and acceptance. He/she
assists in creating a climate where each scholar is engaged in the learning process while cultivating a love for
learning. The assistant principal is evaluated by the principal in conjunction with the Pastor.
The Spiritual Leader:
❖ Is a practicing Catholic who has a clear knowledge of Catholic Identity and Faith Formation
❖ Assists in providing professional development that supports the school’s spiritual goals.
The Instructional Leader:
❖ Understands the depth of the Massachusetts Common Core Curriculum Frameworks, curriculum planning
and mapping, and integration of technology
❖ Should assist in developing a rigorous educational program that maintains academic excellence
❖ Should be able to work with teachers to effectively use
NWEA MAP
data to tailor instruction
❖ Understands the nuances of a STEM education that is implemented throughout and across the curriculum
❖ Will assist in providing effective professional development that supports academic goals
The Executive Management Leader:
❖ Assists in providing leadership among faculty, staff, and families that creates a positive and welcoming
learning environment that is firm, consistent, and respects the diversity among scholars/families across all
levels.
❖ Will assist in recruiting, hiring, supporting, supervising, and evaluating all faculty and staff
❖ Will work with enrollment coordinator to ensure enrollment continues to grow
❖ Will assist in overseeing the marketing and development in conjunction with the Marketing and
Development Coordinator to ensure consistent branding and advertising which includes print, electronic,
and social media.
❖ Will assist in managing the submission of surveys and reports in a timely manner.
❖ Will adhere to and assist in generating the school budget with the principal, the accountant, and Pastor.
❖ Will assist in supervising the use and maintenance of the facilities to ensure safety and cleanliness.
❖ Will be knowledgeable of government funding, and how to apply for and use it in the appropriate
manner. (National School Lunch, Title I, Title IIa, Title III, Arpa funding, etc)
Skills:
❖ Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
❖ Demonstrates competence in assisting in staff selection, mentoring, supervision and evaluation
❖ Demonstrates proficiency in digital literacy
❖ Familiarity with FACTS student information system
Education:
A master’s degree in education is preferred
