Temporary Summer Reading Assistant $12.97 per hour
Part Time St Tammany Parish Library Saint Tammany, LA Description:
Temporary part time assistant for children’s, teen, and adult summer reading programs. Positions available in Covington, Mandeville, and Slidell. Begins May 12, 2025. Ends July 19, 2025.
Duties include:
Registering children, teens, and adults for the Summer Reading Challenge (SRC). Administering certificates and prizes at completion of SRC. Assisting with management of teen volunteers. Assisting with craft materials preparation. Assisting with all aspects of programming, including preparation, introductions, facilitation, wrap up, and crowd control. Assisting patrons with finding books. Training will be provided. Shelving books. Training will be provided. Performs other duties and assignments as designated by Management. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in a library environment while sitting at a desk or computer terminal or while standing at a counter for extended periods of time.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Must have pleasant and professional demeanor when using telephone and email correspondence. Must have an interest in and aptitude for working with the public, especially children and teens. Must have the ability to multitask, to be flexible, and to work independently. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Google Docs, Sheets, and Drive, email apps, Zoom, and social networking apps or aptitude to learn computer applications. Training will be provided. Must be able to assist the public with filling out online forms. Must be able to use a photocopy machine, paper cutter, and laminator. Must have reliable transportation and ability to drive to multiple locations during work day for some positions. Must have artistic and craft skills. Must be able to start the week of May 12. Minimum Education, Experience, and Training High school diploma Must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license Prior work experience assisting the public is a plus Prior work experience working with children and teens is a plus Physical Requirements Must have the ability to lift at least 25 pounds, push, bend, and reach as needed Must have the physical stamina to stand for long time periods
