HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER

North Broward Preparatory School is seeking a middle school English teacher with experience and expertise teaching middle school students with a range of abilities in English/ language arts courses. Required experience includes knowledge and/or experience teaching middle school students as they grow in reading skills, the writing process, research skills, vocabulary acquisition, listening and speaking, and citizenship. Candidates will also need excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, a desire to work as part of a collaborative team, and strong emotional intelligence.

JOB PURPOSE

You’ll help us increase student achievement by serving as a teacher, advocate, and advisor. You’ll explain the established curriculum as described in the NBPS curriculum maps by selecting and planning appropriate learning and teaching activities. As a genuine team-player, you’ll work across our central, regional, and local teams to improve student outcomes in all areas. RESPONSIBILITIES

Articulate the Mission, Vision, and Values of the school and Nord Anglia, both verbally and in writing.

Understand all elements, goals, instructional best practice strategies, embodied in the academic plan, as well as the ability to clearly articulate the plan to parents and students.

LEARNING AND TEACHING

Exercise good classroom management with the use of fair and consistent standards and appropriate sanctions that are clearly articulated to the students.

Encourage students to ask questions and to express their difficulties.

Know and use a wide range of assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectives.

Provide reports on student progress and maintain open communication with ensuring that these reports are accurate and constructive.

Differentiate instruction and assessment to meet the diverse needs of studentsIdentify students who need additional academic assistance and be able to refer such students appropriately.

Incorporate all four skills (listening, writing, reading, speaking) based on proficiency levels into classroom instruction.

Develop lessons that engage students in higher order thinking (refer to Bloom’s Taxonomy) personalizing instruction based on student need.

Use learning resources and technology to enhance lessons where appropriate.

PLANNING AND PREPARATION

Effective organizational skills including but not limited to lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessmentsAbility to monitor student progress and report information in a timely mannerCreate an environment that fosters a growth mindset.

Create an atmosphere of mutual respect.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

Strong proficiency with Canvas learning management system.

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for producing reports and presentations.

Good cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures.

Excellent analytical skills•with the passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success.

Results orientated with the ability to consistently map efforts against identified KPIs.

Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks.
