Job Description
Middle School Music Teacher 2025-26 Butler Academy Hartsville, SC 29550 At its core, your job will be to get our scholars to love, appreciate, understand and make MUSIC! We are especially excited about music teachers who can teach and play various instruments, and find happiness in the “joyful noises” that our scholars in grades 6 – 9 call music. More specifically, we are looking for a teacher with a strong appreciation for what it means to teach beginners. Butler Academy, or BA for short, operates on a year-round academic calendar. We will have grades K through 8th in July and will continue to add a grade each subsequent year until we are K-12. We also have two classes per grade level, with about 22 scholars per class. Our goal is to find teachers who are committed to closing the achievement gap by making BA a dynamic learning environment where every child is genuinely embraced and uplifted. As part of your commitment, we ask that you: Develop well-rounded musicians through hands-on creative lessons Expose our scholars to various genres and types of music and musical instruments Differentiate instruction for scholars based on their educational needs, abilities, grade level and interests Support and prepare scholars for performance opportunities such as Friday Celebrations Teach music theory Acquire appropriate teaching materials and resources Create an engaging scholar-centered environment, utilizing teaching techniques from our “Responsive Classroom” training Motivate pupils and encourage progress Embody Butler Academy’s mission, vision, and core values Communicate and collaborate with families regarding the social and emotional well-being and academic progress of each scholar Participate in all community building activities, including Morning Huddle and Friday Celebration What you’ll need: A strong belief that all scholars can succeed; regardless of their race, class, or gender An ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment A commitment to constant professional growth and development
