Job Description:
The Literacy Specialist
- Dyslexia assignment will be based on the reading intervention and programmatic needs of schools and the district.
Provides scientifically evidence-based reading and writing interventions to meet the individual needs of students in grades K-12 for students who are below grade level expectations (specific training will be required) and who have dyslexia. Provides leadership, collaborates, effectively communicates, provides K-12 school based professional development, and communicates/collaborates closely with classroom teachers, administration and parents. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING
- Master’s Degree in Education, Special Education or Literacy preferred
- Endorsement in reading or working toward a masters in literacy

Responsibilities:
Participate in continuous professional development and receive on-going coaching to maintain current scientifically evidence-based practices beyond any initial training. May be required to participate in an initial year-long training in order to plan, prepare and deliver instructional methods aligned with scientifically evidence-based interventions for students with dyslexia, depending on experience. Coordinate and facilitate opportunities with leaders and teachers to analyze literacy/reading academic performance assessment data, including achievement gaps and assist in developing plans to address student performance issues. Responsible for planning, assessing, progress monitoring and maintaining accurate/complete records of students’ progress and development preparing required reports on students and activities. Coordinate, communicate, and /or collaborate student progress and data with classroom teachers, READ contacts, other interventionists, school/district administrators, and families, related to student programming and progress, as appropriate. Provide dyslexia professional development and coaching as directed by district directors. Utilize technology and integrate the use of technology to provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities, instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, observe, evaluate, encourage and provide feedback on student’s performance and development. Work collaboratively with families as a resource to support students with reading deficiencies and dyslexia. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. Assess, plan, organize and implement scientifically, evidence-based literacy interventions within a multi-tiered system that guides and encourages students in grades K-12 to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Deliver targeted and intensive reading interventions and supports for students with dyslexia (individually or small group).
Certifications:
Certification in CERI, ALTA, or similar accredited program (Preferred)
- as applicable, Certified Academic Language Therapist Certification (Preferred)
- as applicable, Orton Gillingham Trained and Certified (Preferred)
- Orton-Gillingham Academy, Reading Teacher or Reading Specialist Endorsement
- Colorado Department of Education, Teaching License with a READ Act Designation

Hard to Hire Licensed position salaries are set based on one of three salary schedules; General, Hard to Hire, and Specialist/Extremely Hard to Hire.
