Job Description

COMPENSATION

Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement located on the DY website.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides direct instructional support to students with disabilities in the classroom or in a separate setting.
Implements and/or adapts modifications and accommodations to the environment or curricular materials as directed by the special education teacher/liaison, classroom teacher or related service provider.
Collects data regarding students’ goals and/or objectives as directed by licensed staff.
Supports special education and Dynamic Learning Program students by providing assistance with equipment (i.e. assistive technology).
Assist with the supervision of students during play and lunch periods.
Foster student independence while supporting individual needs.
Responsible for carrying out tasks that allow students to meet their IEP and program goals and appropriately function in the educational setting. Tasks may include assisting with behavior, medical, social, academic or self-help interventions.
Work may include, but is not limited to assisting with personal hygiene, direct behavior services (such as ABA and FBA) and data collection.
Maintain proper confidentiality of student records.
Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.
Supporting daily living skills of students can be an essential function of the job.
Support the lead teacher in the following:
Regular one-on-one conferences. These one-on-one conferences allow for a deeper understanding of each student’s learning style, interests, and challenges.
Small group activities, projects, and problem solving tasks foster teamwork, communication skills, and the ability to approach challenges from multiple perspectives. Students learn not only from staff but also from their peers within the program.
Classrooms can be rearranged to suit different activities when needed, technology is integrated seamlessly to enhance the learning experience.
The Dynamic Learning Program embraces active learning, meaningful discussions, individualized support, and collaborative activities. The program strives to cultivate not just knowledge, but the skills and mindset needed for success.

QUALIFICATIONS

CPR, First Aid Certification desirable.
Participate in annual trainings, for bloodborne pathogens, universal precautions, 51A, bullying, epi-pen, etc.
Must be highly qualified.
Associate’s degree, 2 years of college or passing score on the ParaPro test.
Knowledge of child development (intellectual, social/emotional, and physical) and 12 months experience working with students with special needs is desirable.
