Job Description
Lander Grinspoon Academy is seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated 1:1 Instructional Aide to support a student with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) in an inclusive classroom setting. The aide will work under the direction of classroom teachers to ensure the student has access to learning, communication support, and engagement in daily classroom activities Start date is August 25, 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individualized academic and communication support throughout the school day
Implement strategies recommended by the student’s speech-language pathologist (SLP) and individualized education plan (IEP)
Facilitate communication using AAC tools, visual supports, and gestures as needed
Assist with classroom activities, transitions, and peer interactions
Collect data and track progress on IEP goals in collaboration with the classroom teacher and Learning Specialist
Promote independence while ensuring the student’s needs are met
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education or a related field preferred
Experience in working within an educational setting preferred
An understanding of child development and the ability to work with children of varying abilities are essential skills
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude
INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT
Job Description
Reports to: Classroom teacher for daily consultation and, through those teachers, to the building principal.
Responsibilities:
Provides assistance to an assigned student in line with the child’s Individualized Educational Plan.
Essential Functions:
- maintain high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and their records
- willing and able to learn and master the use of communication device and/or communication protocol used by the student
- carry out personal health and safety protocols, including toileting as necessary, with appropriate training
- compile reports of daily accomplishments and/or behaviors for regular meetings with consulting teacher
- participate in in-service training programs and/or professional development programs, as assigned
- provide information to be included in the preparation of progress reports
- provide escort and assistance to assigned student as necessary throughout the building
- perform other duties, as assigned
Ability to: - work with children of varying abilities
- implement a structured behavior plan and work with appropriate staff to modify when necessary
- engage in activities to develop self-worth and dignity of students
- recognize and provide for individual differences among students
- communicate effectively with students, teachers, and administration
- maintain cooperative and productive working relationship when dealing with students and staff
- solve practical problems with students and staff
- understand and carry out oral and written directions
- arrive promptly for school, scheduled classes and duties
- support and follow established school policies
- plan and organize work to meet deadlines
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate’s degree in education or related field or demonstrated specialized knowledge and skills preferred
