Position Summary:
The Special Education Resource Support Specialist is responsible for providing support and instruction to students with diverse learning needs primarily in the general education setting. S/he will collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other relevant stakeholders to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and ensure a learning environment conducive to students with special needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional Support:
Deliver high-quality instruction and implement specially designed learning strategies and accommodations outlined in the students’ IEPs, as provided by the regular Special Education Resource Teacher.

Student Engagement:
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment to encourage active participation and engagement among students with diverse learning needs.

Classroom Management:
Maintain discipline and order in the classroom, adhering to the school’s behavior management policies, and ensure a safe and supportive atmosphere for all students.

Collaboration:
Work closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to align instructional strategies and support services with students’ individualized needs.

Data Collection and Reporting:
Accurately record student progress, behavioral observations, and relevant information.

Flexibility:
Aid in adapting lesson plans and instructional strategies based on student-specific needs and abilities.

Confidentiality:
Respect and maintain the confidentiality of student information, adhering to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other relevant regulations.

Crisis Intervention:
If necessary, follow school procedures for managing crisis situations or behavioral incidents involving students.
Qualifications:

Education:
Associate’s degree in Special Education or a related field of education. RIDE certification in Special Education or a related field is preferred. Certification in (or ability to achieve) proficiency in Safety Care de-escalation and crisis management skills is required.

Experience:
Previous experience working with students with disabilities or diverse learning needs is advantageous.

Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, practical classroom management abilities, and the capacity to work collaboratively with a diverse range of students and staff.

Understanding of IEPs:
Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and experience implementing accommodations and modifications according to students’ individual needs.

Adaptability:
Ability to quickly adapt to different classroom environments and student populations.

Clearance:
Must undergo and pass a background check, as required by the school district.

Working Conditions:
The Special Education Resource Support Specialist will work in various classrooms throughout the school as directed by the Building Administration. They will follow the school district’s academic calendar and adhere to the established school hours.
