Until Filled Farmington Public Schools is seeking a Socail Studies Tutor at Farmington High School. Position is 6.5 hours per day, school year and includes health insurance, $30,000 life insurance & LTD, 12 sick days, 3 personal days and 8 paid holidays.
General Description and Duties:
Tutors provide instructional support and/or reinforcement of the instructional program for selected students under the supervision of a teacher. This includes carrying out teacher prepared lesson plans and supervising teacher-planned activities, assisting in the preparation of materials for instruction, and recording individual progress of students. This position exhibits a cooperative working relationship with teachers.
Qualifications:
Candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree (degree in Social Studies / History preferred) Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students and possess a personable relationship with teachers. Consideration will be given to the following: references that indicate the candidate possesses the skills required for this position ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form Various life/work experiences that contribute to the candidate’s overall preparedness. Prior experience working with school age children is a plus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with teams of teachers to monitor student progress in heterogeneously grouped Social Studies classes and designs interventions for those in need. Joins teachers’ team meetings, as needed, to support curriculum development and identify opportunities for instructional support. Assists Social Studies teachers with differentiated activities in their classrooms. Provides individual or small group tutorials for students assigned by classroom teachers as well as to students who drop in to the Tutorial as needed. Works with the Social Studies department leader to develop practices to promote self-direction, reflection, and student ownership over the writing process. Participates in relevant professional development.
Salary:
$27.36 – $30.56 per hour based on experience (per FPSEU contract)
