Videos Duties The Chief Biomedical Engineer is responsible for the professional and administrive management of the Biomedical Engineering Department the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center. The incumbent has responsibility for supervising technical staff including engineers, Biomedical Engineering technicians, and other technical staff. The duties of the Supervisory Biomedical Engineer (Clinical) include, but are not limited to the following: The Chief Biomedical Engineer is a staff professional consultant and advisor on professional clinical engineering mters to top management, high level medical and administrive staff, and VISN management. He/She has total responsibility for execution and management of a complex, professional, highly technical, Biomedical Engineering program. The program has direct impact on all services provided by the medical center and freestanding outpient clinics. The program must provide safe, reliably maintained equipment for the delivery of quality health care in a cost-effective manner. The Chief Biomedical Engineer has performance ring/reporting accountability to the Chief Engineer with mrix oversight and performance ring input from the VISN 16 Chief Biomedical Engineer. He/She receives administrive direction with assignments in terms of broadly defined missions or functions. He/She exercises authority to oversee the overall planning, direction, and timely execution of the Biomedical Engineering program, including development of the service, assignment of duties, and pursuit of higher-level administrive approval of goals and objectives for supervisors or managers of subordine levels. He/She approves multiyear and long-range plans developed by the supervisors of subordine levels and subsequently manages the overall work to ensure achievement of those goals and objectives. The Chief Biomedical Engineer has responsibility for independent planning, designing, and implementing programs, projects, studies, or other work. Successful execution of these responsibilities has major impact upon the outcome of the pient care delivery multiple sites. The Chief Biomedical Engineer is a key member of the management team and is relied on for authoritive advice on Biomedical Engineering issues. He/She fully participes as a technical advisor in most significant management planning and policy or decision-making actions. The Chief Biomedical Engineer has administrive, managerial, and supervisory responsibilities in support of the VISN 16 Biomedical Engineering program. He/She is fully responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, directing, controlling, and evaluing this program the medical center and its outpient clinics. These activities are coordined with the administrive and medical departments each site. The Chief Biomedical Engineer inities, modifies, and sets policy, procedures, standards, and goals in accordance with the VISN 16 Biomedical Engineering Office defined standards. The Chief Biomedical Engineer is responsible for the full range of personnel actions and organizion design proposals recommended by subordine supervisors. The incumbent plans work to be accomplished by subordines, sets, and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. He/She assigns work to subordines based on priorities, selective considerion of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of the employees.

Examples of acceptable engineering degrees include: Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biochemical Engineering. Titles may vary from educional institutions and change over time. OR , (2) Certificion as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) and a bachelor’s degree not listed above.
