Siemens Electrification and Automation is seeking experienced professionals in power transmission & distribution, in the field of substation automation and protection relay engineering to join our growing team of Power Systems Engineers We are looking for Senior Power System Automation Engineers. This position will be based at Wendell, NC.
Role Description:
Design, implement, and maintain automation systems and associated equipment for power substations. Configure and test RTU/PLC for protection and controls schemes of Medium and High Voltage substations systems. Develop new application solutions with IEC61850 or other communication protocols relevant in the energy automation field. Design and/or support elaboration of Control Logic Diagrams, System Network Architecture, Signal Lists, Functional Design Specifications documents during design phase of the project. Prepare and execute (FAT) Factory Acceptance Test procedures & testing environments for customer projects. Prepare and execute (SAT) Site Acceptance Test procedures and commissioning scripts for customer projects. Be a technical leader in projects or lead other team members in project activities. Be one of our primary customer interfaces, including trouble shooting and commissioning support. Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and commissioning phases. You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronics/computer science engineering. 6+ years of engineering experience in power automation for electrical substations. Project Technical Lead experience. Ability to read and fully understand DC and AC schematics, three- and one-line diagrams for Medium and/or High Voltage substations systems. Knowledge of Siemens, GE, SEL, ABB, and others relay/automation products and associated software. Communication Network Technologies, including Design and hardware configuration. Communication protocols such as
IEC61850
(MMS/GOOSE/SMV), DNP, Modbus, IEC103, IEC101, IEC104, Profinet, Profibus. Control and Protection commissioning experience. Factory and Site testing experience in automation and control systems Around 75% of travel is expected depending on project assignments and requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Communication Network Technologies, including Design, Configuration, and troubleshooting of layer 2 and layer 3 capable devices for protection and automation applications with Ruggedcom and Scalance products. Advanced knowledge in Siemens Power Automation products such as
SICAM PAS, SICAM RTU, SICAM SCC.
Experience with Power Automation engineering tools such as SICAM Device Manager, SICAM Toolbox, SIMATIC WinCC Advanced knowledge in with Siemens Industry Automation products such as
SIMATIC PLC, TIA
Portal, WinCC Advanced/Professional/Unified. Advanced Programming skills and experience with programming languages used in process and power automation such as
C++, ST, LD, FBD.

The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
