Job Description
Grant Accountant The Housing Assistance Corporation 214 North King Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792 The Grant Accountant has the responsibility for classifying, posting, balancing, reconciling, and summarizing the financial transactions as they relate to federal, state, local, foundation, and private grants. The Grant Accountant will provide application and reporting support to the Grants Manager and Finance Director. Duties assigned may vary according to the specific needs of the organization and/or allocation of workload. This position reports to the Finance Director. Grant Application and Funder Reporting support Assist Grant Manager with grant application and reporting deadlines Maintains monthly shared spreadsheets for current and pending federal, state, local, foundation, and private grants. Develop grant budget and perform post-award budget revision reporting for grants with support from the Grants Manager and Finance Director Assist Finance Director with Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) project and other project financing underwriting support Grant Tracking and Financial Management Maintain a system of financial accounting, reporting, and record keeping in accordance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Accurate and timely financial reporting by grant and / or designated / restricted gifts Allocate expenses to individual grants / restricted gifts to optimize individual grant impact according to donor wishes Responsible for grant revenue recognition that aligns with grant expenditures. Reconcile unearned income and restricted fund bank balances by grant Responsible for budgetary control and post award compliance with federal, state, local, and sponsor regulations Monitor and report on grant fund availability and upcoming grant funding periods, expiration dates and reporting requirements Calculate grant reimbursement amounts and create and deliver invoices, reports and supporting documentation as required Track grant receipts against awards / outstanding invoices Responsible for the monitoring of grant activity including cost overruns, cost sharing and unallowable administrative expenses Attends monthly review meetings with the Grants Manager, Finance Director, Executive Director, Home Repair Coordinator and Project Accountant Assists the Finance Director and Home Repair Coordinator with Grant Monitoring and Grant Audits Assist with year-end reporting / reconciliation by grant for financial statement audit and Single Audit Board reporting as needed Maintain knowledge of internal control requirements Cross train on other financial accounting and reporting functions Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, Bachelor’s degree preferred 3 to 5 years of general ledger and grant accounting experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience with Federal and State Grant Reporting and Administration preferred Proficiency in Quickbooks and Microsoft Office including Excel and Word. Well-developed organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize, coordinate work flow and effectively communicate progress Self-starter able to work independently which functioning effectively in a team environment Strong oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills Ability to handle confidential information appropriately Join our team as an Accountant where your expertise will contribute significantly to our financial health and operational efficiency.
