Accounting Systems Assistant 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 333 Washington Street, Brookline, MA 02445 Support Public Works Operations with Your Financial and Administrative Expertise The Town of Brookline seeks a detail-oriented and customer-focused Accounting/Systems Assistant to support financial operations within the Department of Public Works. This full-time position plays a key role in tracking expenditures, coordinating billing cycles, supporting public construction communications, and assisting residents and contractors with permits and bonding. This position requires strong organizational skills, proficiency with spreadsheets and financial systems, and the ability to manage competing priorities with accuracy and professionalism. Ideal candidates will bring prior experience in office administration, customer service, and bookkeeping, along with the discretion and judgment to handle sensitive records and inquiries.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor and report on departmental expenditures and balances Track disposal tonnage and process related invoices Support public inquiries and complaints related to construction, permits, and claims Coordinate data entry of payroll, purchase orders, refuse accounts, and vendor billing Communicate with contractors, Town Counsel, Dig Safe, and other stakeholders Ensure accurate and timely support of DPW’s administrative functions
Qualifications:
High school diploma required; at least 3 years of experience in office/business administration or financial support Strong communication and customer service skills Knowledge of accounting procedures and municipal operations preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and financial systems Ability to work independently with attention to detail and deadlines Why Brookline? Salary range:
$33.96 – $35.41 hourly (37.5 hours weekly) Position open until filled. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by June 30, 2025.
