Hybrid-Birmingham, AL HOPE Credit Union is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Mortgage Underwriter to join our growing mortgage team. In this role, you will assist in evaluating and analyzing credit and income reviews, clearing underwriting conditions, completing Notice of Action requests, and responding to underwriting inquiries via the Scenario Desk and Mortgage Underwriting Inbox. Responsibilities:

Review credit reports and income documentation. Must have a working knowledge of conventional underwriting guidelines. Identify and communicate missing or incomplete documentation to loan officers and processors. Respond to all underwriting inquiries within the department’s Service Level Agreement established timeline. Assist senior underwriters with clearing conditions when needed. Complete Notice of Action Requests. Respond to credit and income reviews as well as scenario questions. Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance underwriting knowledge and skills. Maintain an organized, digital workspace. Maintain a sense of confidentiality and integrity.

Required Qualifications:

Three years of experience in mortgage lending, loan processing, or underwriting support. Basic understanding of mortgage loan products and underwriting principles. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. High school diploma or Associate’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a Loan Origination System is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
