This position is responsible for daily oversight of the many technically complex and diverse activities performed by the Virology and Serology sections of the Rollins Laboratory. Responsibilities include providing consultation to veterinary practitioners and producers, as well as state and federal partners; developing and implementing policies and procedures; supervision and management of laboratory section operations; coordinating all personnel functions; developing new services; and oversight of the quality control and accreditation standards.

REQUIRED

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following: Considerable knowledge of laboratory operational systems. Considerable knowledge of sophisticated laboratory instrumentation to include ELISA readers, thermal cyclers, and sequencing equipment. Considerable knowledge of preparing and managing Standard Operating procedures and work instructions related to laboratory procedures.

Considerable knowledge of laboratory information systemDemonstrated experience in sequencing methods, including analysis and interpretation. Considerable knowledge of professional and accreditation standards. Considerable knowledge of laboratory quality management systemThorough knowledge of the assigned areas of microbiology. Knowledge of supervisory and management functions. Ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with staff and veterinary personnel. Ability to analyze and resolve administrative and technical problems. Ability to analyze laboratory data and provide result interpretation.

Knowledge of animal diseases and husbandry

MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES

PhD degree in microbiological science and three years of related laboratory experiencePrevious veterinary diagnostic laboratory and supervisory experience is highly desirable.
