Description Summary:
This Job performs all routine andcomplicated laboratory procedures including specimen processing andhandling, testing of patient specimens, calculating, and reportingof results, performance of quality control procedures, operationand maintenance of instruments and equipment, assisting in thedevelopment of new procedures and protocols, may perform phlebotomyand other patient-oriented tasks, and may perform other relatedduties as requested or directed.

- Performs allroutine and complicated laboratory procedures in the primarysection to which assigned about age or sex specific values.
- Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentationand equipment and makes minor repairs as necessary or notifiesBio-med as needed.
- Must cross-train to other laboratory sectionsas needed.
- Assures that the laboratory’s quality control programis properly followed.
- Calculates, enters, and/or verifies resultsof laboratory procedures.
- Utilizes the Laboratory InformationSystem.
- Provides notification and documentation of criticallaboratory values obtained.
- Processes patient specimens,including collection, handling, and distribution always cognizantof minimal pediatric specimen volumes (when required).
- Participates in the evaluation, development, and implementation ofnew or updated testing procedures and protocols.
- Demonstratescompetence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in amanner that meets the population-specific and developmental needsof patients served by the department.
- Appropriately adaptsassigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods toaccommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, agespecific and other developmental needs of each patient served.

- Must complete all required compliance and regulatory tasks andfollow all applicable policies and procedures.
- Performs otherduties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills
- Bachelor’sDegree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological or clinicallaboratory science or medical technology from an accreditedinstitution or equivalent laboratory training and experiencemeeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation42CFR493.1489 (includes U. S. Military laboratory training coursesof at least 50 weeks) OR
- Education that has been evaluated by anacceptable credentialing agency and deemed equivalent to a USBachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinicallaboratory science or medical technology. Experience
- Noexperience required for graduates of a clinical laboratory trainingprogram approved or accredited by NAACLS, or other organizationsapproved by HHS. OR
- One year of approved clinical laboratoryexperience, which must include a clinical rotation through thefollowing sections of the laboratory: Blood Banking, Microbiology,Chemistry, and Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluidsin the U. S. or with an accredited laboratory within the last 5years. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- Must possessCertification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, orHEW/HHS
- If certification with an expiration date is held, thecertification must be maintained and kept current
- Louisianarequires State Licensure
- New Graduate that is Board Certified oreligible (must complete Board Certification in 1 year of hire,Louisiana excluded)
