Responsibilities:
Utilizes the principles of aseptic practice and initiates corrective action when breaks occur; uses technically advanced equipment; participates in evaluation of new products; maintains appropriate supplies for procedural needs; provides appropriate care to specimens and cultures as directed by set policies and procedures; performs scrub technician duties; establishes and maintains sterile field; inspects sterile items for contamination before opening; adheres to electrosurgical safety policy and procedures; performs sponge and sharp counts, initiates corrective actions when counts are incorrect; communicates/documents results of counts according to facility policy; decontaminates instruments according to unit protocols; assists physician who performs advanced endoscopy including ERCP long and shortwire, EUS, RFA, VLE, Small Bowel Single Balloon, Small Bowel Spirus, Dilations by CRE, Savory, Hurricane, Stents including esophageal, colonic, biliary and pancreatic, Spy glass with ESL, Bronchoscopy, Navigational Bronchoscopy and Endobronchial Ultrasound, lesion excision including polypectomy, mucosal resection, submucosal resection, Cautery including Argon, ERBE knife, and waterjet; assists with advanced procedures including: POEM, GPOEM, TIF, Obera and Endostitch; possesses the knowledge needed to assist with these types of cases or the ability to engage in active learning, including attending conferences, and training that may be deemed mandatory; demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to the following patient populations: Neonate, Infant-Toddler, School Age/ Adolescent, Reproductive Age, Post/Peri Menopausal; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skill with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; notifies Charge Nurse when leaving unit; maintains accurate and complete records by completing unit education card, in-service attendance sheet, Sterilizer strips and Steris/gluteraldehyde QA log; updates Surgeon Preference Cards; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates and helps others improve the performance of the unit; completes all mandatory unit, education and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety and when moving equipment that is necessary to perform essential functions; supports the nursing process through data collection, provision of patient care, and implements nursing interventions for patients and families as directed by the RN; provides direct patient care according to unit specific competencies; identifies and monitors medications administered from the sterile field; responds appropriately to emergency patient situations; performs skilled procedures and can state the purpose, rational, precautions and observations related to that procedure; utilizes a personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital Information System and ORSOS system; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values. adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards; assists with orientation of new employees as assigned; available in hospital within thirty (30) minutes of call; participates on committees as assigned; participates in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of ICARE process as assigned; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent and three years of endoscopy or GI experience.
