Job Summary:
Reporting into the CEO, the VicePresident (VP) Medical Affairs will be tasked with building aquality Medical Affairs organization focused on maximizing patientbenefit from the company’s branded therapies through ensuring theirsafe and appropriate use. The chosen candidate will play a key rolein the clinical and commercial development of the company’s brandedproducts with purview over strategic guidance of activities relatedto KOL relationships, company sponsored non-registration trials,publications and investigator sponsored trials. In addition, theSVP will work closely with the leadership of the company’s ClinicalResearch, Commercial and Product Management functions worldwide tosupport optimal life cycle management of all branded products.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Commercial, Clinical Researchand Product Management to set the strategic direction for allfranchises and branded therapies (biologics, specialty dermatology,medical dermatology, ophthalmology, and oncology). Build theevolution of the global and US business strategy to expand on theincreasing number of assets and impact to the overall organization.
Generate and foster relationships with key opinion leaders (KOL) tosupport growth and development of the portfolio, pipelines, andunmet patient needs. This networking will support broader strategydevelopment. Recruit and manage the Medical Affairs team to supporta growing product portfolio. The team will provide KOL outreach,manage Investigator Initiated study selection and execution, andprovide appropriate and complete responses to requests for medicalinformation, both on and off label. All activities will be carriedout in strict compliance with all federal regulations. Oversee ateam of direct reports, including medical communication &publications, medical information, Health Economics and OutcomesResearch (HEOR), and field medical. Set up publication strategy andoversee management of publication planning and execution to ensurethat all data on company products generated by company orinvestigator sponsored studies is publicly presented in anappropriate and timely fashion and in a fair and balanced manner.
Oversee management of funding for Continuing Medical Education(CME), grants, and sponsorships to ensure that funds are allocatedappropriately to activities consistent with the clinicaldevelopment and commercial objectives of the business, and thatreview and approval processes are in place to maintain strictcompliance with all federal regulations. Oversee the management ofInvestigator Sponsored Studies to ensure that the strategy isclearly defined and consistent with the clinical developmentstrategy objectives for each product, and that appropriateprocesses are in place for review, approval, management, andsupport of studies while maintaining investigator independence.
Responsibility and accountability for the financial management andreporting requirements for Medical Affairs function.
Qualifications:
MD (or MD, PhD), or PharmD with substantialexperience; Board certification not required. 15 years’ experiencein the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Strategic direction inimmunology, Dermatology, Rheumatology and or Gastro areasExperience in biologics. Excellent communication and managementskills are essential. Candidate must be a strong collaboratorespecially with the Commercial organization. Candidates should haveexperience managing large, multidisciplinary teams. Ability to workcross functionally with all levels to perform job duties.
Proficient in the use of desktop applications such as Word, Excel,Power Point. Travel will be expected at a minimum of 25% Actualbase compensation may vary based on a number of factors, includingbut not limited to geographical location and experience. Inaddition, this position is part of the Annual Performance BonusPlan.
