Job Description Job Description We are seeking a fun and dynamicco-coordinator for our 85-kid, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade afterschoolprogram. Together with your co-coordinator, you will provideoversight, plan daily activities, and supervise staff. During theschool day, you will serve as a mainstream teaching assistant atthe school, four days a week, from 10a.m

m. Over the summer,you will serve as a coordinator at one of our summer day camps.

This is a unique opportunity to work in a school, take leadershipof an afterschool site and summer day camp, and play an active rolein providing quality out of school experiences for kids

thisis a full-time, year-round job.

PAY/WAGES

The pay rate is between$22.06 and $23.06 based on experience.

Rec Kids Afterschool Program (40%)

  • Plan and provide engagingactivities for students who participate in the developmentallyappropriate program and in keeping with the program goals andobjectives.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations
  • Align daytime school expectations, rules, and behavior managementsystems with afterschool programs.
  • Create and maintain anenvironment of respect and rapport.
  • Assure productive, effective,and efficient use of other childcare workers in the program.
  • Effectively manage student behavior by clearly communicatingexpectations, monitoring student behavior at all times, andsuccessfully and respectfully responding to student behavior andmisbehavior.
  • Develop and implement effective student behaviorplans as needed.
  • Organize program furniture and other physicalresources to promote interaction, learning, safety, andaccessibility.
  • Successfully implement operational procedures andpractices to ensure a safe and healthy environment for children.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students,equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Provide accommodations forchildren with individual needs.
  • Be responsible for the programset up and clean up daily.
  • Prepare snacks daily for each childparticipating in the program.
  • Keep parents informed about programactivities (i.e., emails, social media, newsletters, etc.).
  • Communicate daily with parents regarding studentbehavior/incidents, activities, child exposure to communicablediseases (i.e., lice, ticks, strep throat, etc.), etc.
  • Promoteand support Essex Junction Recreation and Parks through positiveinteractions with parents and children.
  • Lead & supervise sitestaff. Facilitate monthly staff meetings.
  • Attend regularCoordinator meetings.
  • Establish and maintain detailed, up-to-dateconfidential files on each child participating in the program(i.e., rosters, licensing paperwork, incident reports, accidentreports, comprehensive evaluations, behavior interventions, etc.)
  • Identify program needs such as books, toys, and games designed tostimulate learning.
  • Participate in and attend childcare trainingand seminars to keep abreast of current best practices, researchfindings, and other developments in the field.
  • Participate inschool assemblies and other school events.
  • Maintain regularinteractions with the school principal, school nurse, teachers,guidance counselors, special educators, and other school facultyand staff to ensure consistency of academic and behavioralexpectations of students.
  • Keep abreast of school events that mayimpact the program.
  • Integrate the program into the school’sculture, complementing curricula, themes, behavior managementstrategies, and systems, and events.
  • Assist in program budgetpreparation and administration, including reviewing and analyzingexpenditures.
  • Responsible for planning and leading monthlyoff-site field trips for up to 72 children.
  • Meet regularly withthe School Age Childcare Assistant Directors to coordinate andevaluate instruction activities, review program and child progress,consult about special problems, and the like.
  • Meet with parentsto discuss their child’s progress, accomplishments, and issues athome and in the program.
  • Assist in administering formalassessments to determine program progress and improvement areas.
  • Assist and/or instruct students in basic life skills, such asgeneral behavior, dressing and undressing outdoors, care forbelongings, and other areas assigned.
  • Possess and demonstrate theability to maintain calm and effectively and efficiently respond tostressful situations and possible medical emergencies.
  • Processroutine communications, such as homework logs, permission slips,meeting reminders, staff meeting notices, and the like.
  • Assistwith monitoring students for signs of disruptive behaviors such asviolence, verbal outbursts, and episodes of destructiveness inefforts to curtail such behavior.
  • Drive EJRP vehicles safely asneeded. Vacation Camps (10%)
  • Lead and assist at vacation campsduring school vacations as assigned by the School Age ChildcareAssistant Directors. Camp Maple Street, Camp REACH, Camp Discovery,Camp STAR (20%)
  • Serve as the coordinator or assistant coordinatorof either Camp Maple Street, Camp REACH, Camp Discovery, or CampSTAR.
  • Manage or assist with the day-to-day operation of camp-daily schedules, communication with staff, campers, guardians,field trips, supplies, equipment, etc.
  • Ensure State and Federallicensing standards are applied.
  • Work with School Age ChildcareAssistant Directors to address challenging behaviors, campers, andstaff. Help implement solutions. Mainstream Teaching Assistant(30%)
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, or othernon-instructional times as requested to help ensure students’physical, social, and emotional safety during these times.
  • Adaptgeneral classroom material/methods as appropriate to meet the needsof students in consultation with the classroom and/or specialeducation teacher.
  • Participate in various community activitiesand field trips with students.
  • Assist in administering informalassessments to determine student progress and/or level ofachievement.
  • Assist in developing, compiling, and organizinginstructional materials under the classroom teacher’s or specialeducator’s direction.
  • Play a supportive role in evaluatingstudent progress, problems, and needs.
  • Participate in developingformats for student instruction, teaching strategies, and otheractivities as assigned.
  • Conduct task analysis and data collectionon student performance.
  • Assist students as required withtoileting, self-care, eating, wheelchair transport, and transfer.
  • Check and adjust hearing aids and other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain working files, record grades, and gather and recordvarious student performance, progress, and behavior data.
  • Makephotocopies, order supplies, and perform related office work.
  • Participate in team meetings upon request to assist in developingstudent plans and assessing and evaluating student needs andprogress.
  • Confer with teachers, parents, and administrators asappropriate concerning various matters pertaining to the students
  • Assist students physically as required. Such could includeimplementing non-aversive restraint techniques in accordance withestablished protocols as necessary.
  • Attend and participate in allrelevant training sessions, meetings, and professional growthactivities as requested and/or required, such as CPR, First Aid,data collection, entry, and graphing. These meetings/trainings mayoccur during non-student days (e.g., teacher in-service days)and/or before/after school hours.
  • Assist with the transportationof assigned students as requested.
  • Process routinecommunications, such as parent logs, permission slips, meetingreminders, staff meeting notices, etc.
  • Implement instructionaland behavioral programs for students under the general direction ofclassroom and/or special education teachers. This includes workingwith students, individually and in small groups, in variousacademic areas and life skills.
  • Implement and practice behaviormanagement/modification plans and programs for and with students.
  • Assist and/or instruct students in basic life skills, such asgeneral behavior, dressing/undressing outdoors, toileting, care ofbelongings, insertion and adjustment of hearing aids and use ofother special equipment, and other areas as assigned.
  • Supervisestudent(s) when the teacher is absent from the room.
  • Cover forother Mainstream Teaching Assistants and specialty paraeducators(e.g., Individual Assistants, Interventionists, Job Coaches, etc.)as requested for lunch/break coverage or absences.
  • Manage studentlearning material and maintain a student performance record throughdata collection on a daily basis as necessary or requested.
  • Support assigned students with their classroom work in a separatelearning environment on a temporary basis as needed or requested.

Qualifications

  • Language Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, andinterpret professional journals, technical procedures, andgovernmental regulations. Ability to write reports, businesscorrespondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectivelypresent information and respond to group, school faculty, parents,and general public questions.

  • Mathematical Skills:

    Basic mathskills required (add, subtract, multiply, divide).

ComputerSkills Experience:

Knowledge, skills, and experience with wordprocessing, newsletter, spreadsheet, and database programs.

Previous Microsoft Office experience is preferred.

  • ReasoningAbility/Mental Requirements:

    Ability to define problems, collectdata, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability tointerpret an extensive variety of technical instructions inmathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract andconcrete variables.

  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills:

    Abilityto communicate courteously, efficiently, and effectively with avariety of individuals, including students, faculty,administrators, parents, and representatives of outsideorganizations. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively withpeers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and outside agencies.

  • Must have or have the ability to obtain and maintain valid CPR andFirst-Aid certification.
  • Valid Vermont Driver’s License required
  • Must be or be able to be trained in Responsive Classroom.
  • Mustbe or be able to be trained in CPI/TCI/Handle With Care.
  • Gooddriving record required.
