This is technical field and laboratory work in the collection and analysis of potable and non-potable samples as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Department of Health. Work involves conducting physical, chemical and biological analysis, utilizing standard testing procedures, laboratory instrumentation and software. Employee is expected to use independent judgment in conducting their job functions. Under supervision and with experience and training employee will assume more complex job functions such as Laboratory Safety and Laboratory Information Management System functions. Work assigned is subject to review and performed under the general supervision of the Environmental Compliance Manager. Work schedule might require shift or weekend work.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Collects potable and non-potable water samples and performs field testing on and off site as per the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Standard Operating Procedures and Laboratory Quality Assurance practices. Bottle washing, preservation, and preparing for sample collection as needed. Performs a variety of physical, chemical and biological analyses on samples collected from potable and non-potable water using the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S.EPA) approved methods in conformance with the Florida Department of Health Certification Program National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) requirements. Maintains and generates all required records of sample collection and analyses performed. Prepares reagents and maintains analytical instruments in proper working order, etc. Maintains inventory levels of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and supplies; initiates requests for new or replacement materials. Receives laboratory stock supplies. Maintains online analyzers, and operations equipmentMakes calculations and records results of raw data on log sheets, and through computer data entry. Manage filing system by properly filing lab reports and recovery of historical data. Ensures general cleanliness and appearance of laboratory and equipment. Coordinates safety program. Coordinates Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Performs other work as required. Foster positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
