SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician 2 provides technical support for translational and basic research in evaluating the role of mitochondria as a therapeutic modality in the Department of Surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs molecular biology techniques (Western Blots, Flow Cytometry, and Immunohistochemistry).
Breeds, genotypes, weans, clips, and maintains mice in the lab.
Extracts RNA from tissues of mice and humans.
Assists with various mouse surgeries.
Performs cDNA synthesis.
Conducts expression studies using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR).
Maintains up-to-date records of mice status/experimental data within in-house mouse database.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in one of the sciences. (TRANSCRIPT
REQUIRED
)
EXPERIENCE
OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong ability to work independently in the development of new analytical methods.
Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office and capability to run equipment-associated software.
Good laboratory and mechanical skills.
Ability to perform sometimes tedious procedures in order to obtain precise and accurate measurements.
Excellent written and oral communication skills to prepare and present information in peer-reviewed journals and scientific meetings.
Familiarity with the equipment used for laboratory procedures.
