The Duties and Responsibilities are as follows: 1. Prepares reports in areas of Pathology, Cytology, Molecular Microbiology, and PBSs. All reports are entered and approved by the pathologist before a final report is sent to the client. These reports include incorporation of “free text”, Reports codes and Billing codes. 2. Verifies patient history and demographic information including insurance and billing eligibility. 3. Maintains cytology, histology and pathology records. Files patient’s slides and blocks as well as scans all related documents. 4. Generates statistical reports for Pathology, Cytology, Molecular Microbiology, and PBSs. 5. Packages client supplies as well as samples sent to reference laboratories. 6. Resolves pathology issues with the respective Laboratory Information System (LIS) with the approval of the Pathologist/lab director. 7. Handles communication with clients concerning patient information and reports. 8. Handles requisitions and samples that require additional investigation. 9. Assists with other duties as requested by the Laboratory Operations Manager and/or the Pathologist/Lab Director.
Education Requirements:
High school diploma with emphasis on oral/written communication. Required proficiency in data collection through computer applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other laboratory information systems. A Bachelor of Science degree in a related field is preferred, but not required. Additionally, a medical terminology background is beneficial.
