Under the direction and supervision of a licensedphysician who practices anatomic pathology, processes and documentsspecimens. Collects and prepares samples for pathology analysis.

Conducts tissue and fluid examination, as needed. Assists withconducting postmortem examinations. Responsible for theorganization of the laboratory and the provision of effectivepathological service. Ensures optimal utilization of resources andcompliance with the operating standards of various health caregoverning and accrediting bodies, resulting in improved patientexperience and outcomes.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Prepares gross tissue sections for pathology analysis, whichinclude but are not limited to cutting, staining, as required,describing gross anatomic features, dissecting and processingsurgical specimens for bio-banking, histologic processing, or otheranalyses (e.g., frozen section). 2. Performs human postmortemexaminations, which include but are not limited to selection oftissues and fluids for further examination, external examination,dissection, and gathering and recording information for autopsyreports. 3. Maintains laboratory inventory of supplies andequipment; cleans and disinfects equipment. 4. Calibrates, operatesand troubleshoots medical equipment. 5. Completes, processes andfiles appropriate forms and documents, as needed. 6. Adheres to andacts in compliance with all appropriate procedures, protocols,techniques and standards, as they relate to the gross room. 7.Photographs surgical specimens, as assigned, and maintains qualitystandards and requirements for collection of pathology specimenphotographs. 8. Participates in accessioning and labelingspecimens, storing and disposing specimens, and maintainingreagents and equipment. 9. Analyzes data and prepares reports onfindings. 10. Maintains laboratory safety precautions and adheresto infection prevention procedures. 11. Performs other relatedduties, as assigned.
