coding Associate’s degree Medical terminology Communication skills Entry level Full Job Description Under the direction of a manager and licensed health professionals, provide quick, efficient, and proficient means for the management and release of protected health information (PHI). The medical records specialist is a direct contact to both the patient and the medical facility and provide the necessary documentation for the patient.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
Understand and abide by all HIPAA privacy and security laws. Interpret and apply HIPAA rules to release of protected health information requests. Validate all incoming requests for PHI. Verify patient information using key identifiers. Verify requesting party contact information including fax number or address. Provide attention and care to patients and patient representatives. Processing medical records. Handling MACRA requirements. Check voicemails and return calls on at least a daily basis. Minimum Skills /
Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or Equivalent Associate Degree preferred Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word Working knowledge of health services industry strongly recommended including knowledge of medical terminology and a familiarity with ICD10 and CPT codes Customer oriented and professional disposition Able to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment Excellent organizational, interpersonal, reading comprehension, verbal and written communication skills Ability to self-manage Detail oriented with an ability to accept and respond to changes Experience accessing, navigating and data entering into computerized databases
