Overview Provides occupational therapy interventions todesignated patients under the supervision of an OccupationalTherapist (OT). Assists in monitoring patient progress throughobservations and follows up with supervising therapist. Works underOT supervision as required under NY State Education law.
- Implements occupational therapy services as prescribed in the planof care for the patient and as directed by the Coordinator of COTAServices or the supervising OT.
- Performs occupational therapyprocedures and related tasks that have been selected and delegatedby the Coordinator of COTA Services or the supervising OT.
- Participates in educating the patients and family.
- Reportsobservation of patient’s performance and responses to servicesprovided to the Coordinator of COTA Services or the supervising OTevery two weeks (or sooner if indicated) and to other team membersas directed.
- May modify specific treatment procedures inaccordance with the plan of care and COTA practice standards.
- Documents and maintains service-related records, as directed by theCoordinator of COTA Services or the supervising OT. Submitsdocumentation on a timely basis.
- Initiates and maintains writtenand verbal communication to ensure coordinated, quality patientcare.
- Complies with established Agency policies, procedures andservice standards.
- Participates in in-service programs, QA reviewand interdisciplinary team meetings as requested and consults withother team members as necessary.
- Ensures that an OT is presentduring the initial visit with the COTA and that the OT revisits, atminimum, every sixth visit or thirty days, whichever comes first.
- Receives additional supervision as determined appropriate by theRehabilitation Supervisor. Assists the Rehabilitation Supervisor inscheduling patient supervisory visits, as needed.
- Assumesresponsibility for continued professional growth.
- Participates inspecial projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Licenses and Certifications:
Certification andcurrent registration as an occupational therapy assistant from NewYork State required Valid driver’s license may be required, asdetermined by operational/regional needs required
Education:
Associate’s Degree as an occupational therapy assistant from aNYS-approved program required Bilingual skills may be required, asdetermined by operational needs required
Work Experience:
