Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparation of patient records
- Conduct preliminary tests and measurements, such as visual acuity, autorefraction, blood pressure, imaging and visual field testing
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
- Educate patients on proper contact lens insertion, removal, and care and maintain contact lens trial inventory
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the optical area
- Assist with frame selection and fitting of eyeglasses (sales)
- Perform basic optical laboratory duties, such as frame adjustments
- Perform administrative tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and maintaining patient records
Requirements:
- Previous experience as an optical assistant or in a related field
- Knowledge of medical billing processes and insurance verification is a plus
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and ability to maintain patient confidentiality preferred
- Proficiency in medical terminology is a plus and ability to navigate electronic and paper medical record systems
- Basic knowledge of anatomy and eye structure
- Familiarity with aseptic technique for maintaining sterile environments
- Knowledge of vital signs measurement techniques is a plus
