Position Summary:
The Optometric Technician generates important preliminary information to be used by the optometrist; reviews the patient status and performs medical tests. Upholds the values of EyeCare Associates.
Essential Duties:
Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to: Completing all opening and closing checklists daily Opening, preparing, and maintaining incoming patient charts at least two days in advance Oversee and maintain a productive patient flow to maximize the clinic and physician daily schedule Ordering contact lens trials through OOGP Creating exams and performing workups When necessary, perform scribe duties, such as entering data into the electronic medical records or handwriting in a paper chart, while the physician examines the patient Complete patient intake including but not limited to: patient complaint, health history, ocular and systemic history, recording visual acuity, assist with patient education as necessary Perform testing required by scheduled exam type to include but not limited to: diagnostic testing, visual acuity, lensometry, refractometry, applanation tonometry, basic muscle balance testing, assessing pupils, assessing the anterior chamber, confrontation visual fields, gross external exam, advanced ophthalmic procedures Administering topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician, when necessary Acquiring proper consent and assisting with in-office physician procedures when necessary Setting up and cleaning up for in office physician procedures Reviewing patient charts to ensure accuracy and full completion of all information Assisting in training of fellow ophthalmic assistants (technicians) Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday Complying with all practice procedures, protocols along with all State and Federal regulations Understanding and acceptance of responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisors Maintaining a positive attitude with cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
