Major Responsibilities:
- Provides security serviceswith professionalism, fairness, and compassion in even challengingcircumstances and in accordance with policies, procedures, andtraining.
Inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and teammembers by presenting a professional, approachable, andservice-oriented appearance and demeanor. Is alert, observant, andethical. Complies with and enforces all safety and security rulesand regulations. Maintains Department uniform and equipment in goodrepair.
- Performs routine responsibilities during interior andexterior patrols to ensure safety and security, including but notlimited to: inspections to identify vulnerabilities, hazards, andfire conditions, audits of Interim Life Safety Measures, patientvaluables management, and thorough contraband searches.
Assiststeam members, patients and visitors by providing information,directions, and physical help. Ensures traffic control, monitorsconduct of visitors on premises, and confronts unauthorized personsfor questioning.
- Prevents, responds to, and investigatesworkplace violence. Responds to service calls, such as combative orthreatening patients or visitors and team member incidents. Servesas a primary resource for de-escalation.
- Performs keyresponsibilities to plan, prevent, practice, and respond toemergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children, fire, andactive threats. Responds immediately to emergency and crisissituations; physically intervenes in accordance with training tosituations that have a potential for injury.
- Investigatesincidents that occur on Advocate Aurora property and completestimely and accurate reports. Addresses and escalates complaints tothe appropriate leader and provides supporting documentation.
- Performs liaison rounding duties to cultivate close partnershipswith all department and units. Delivers security awarenesseducation to team members to leverage their assistance in theoverall security of the site.
- Liaisons with state and local lawenforcement and first responder agencies. Coordinates, briefs, andmonitors every law enforcement prisoner patient guard to ensurepolicy compliance and prevent unsafe practices.
- May serve as aprecept for newly hired officers, providing feedback and assistingin maintaining competencies for all officers.
- Maintains currentDepartment training standards in radio communications, verbalde-escalation, stabilization, CPR, application of clinicalrestraints, conducted energy weapon (Taser), to include training onany/all department-issued equipment and/or requirements identifiedin the Annual Training Plan.
” Licensure, Registration, and/or
Certification Required:
- Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Cardissued by the Illinois State Police., or
- Concealed Carry Weapon(CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ)., This isrequired in order to carry a taser at work and
- A valid driver’slicense issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles, and
- Certifiedin Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) use within 90 days of hire.

Education Required:
High School Graduate or GED ExperienceRequired:
Typically requires 1 year of experience in a security,related public safety, or customer service area that includesexperiences in responding to emergent situations and identifyingand resolving issues that pose a potential risk to patients,visitors, staff and/or property.
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesRequired:
- Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issuedby the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety(IAHSS) must be obtained on a one-time basis within two years ofappointment to this role. Recertification is not required.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and soundreasoning while maintaining a courteous and tactful demeanor indealings with employees, visitors, and patients, even if they areverbally aggressive persons.
- Demonstrated experience in quicklyassessing dangerous situations and taking appropriate action.
- Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communications.
- Ability to use a computer to document work such (Microsoft Word,Excel, navigating a web page, and database entry).
- Ability towork a flexible scheduling including off-shifts, weekends andholiday, as necessary.
Physical Requirements and WorkingConditions:
- Must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout theworkday and must lift up to 35 lbs. occasionally.
- Must be able topush/pull with 35 lbs of force. Temperature in working environment(when outside) may vary between
- 10 to 90 degrees due to seasonalchanges.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical,explosive, and radiation hazards. Protective clothing must be wornas necessary.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform thejob.
- Ability to defend self and/or others in case of physicalconfrontations.
