POSITION SUMMARY

Provides treatment to patients by evaluatingthe function and selecting and applying appropriate treatments toimprove or restore function. Participates in an interdisciplinaryapproach for in servicing and community education and in theclinical education of affiliating students. Potentially may beresponsible for cross-site coverage.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
  • Graduate of an accredited program of Physical Therapy with aminimum of a B.S.
  • Must hold a current Connecticut license inPhysical Therapy.
COMPETENCIES
  • This position requires anindividual with strong English communication skills, both verbaland written.
  • Must have personal computer skills and be proficientin the use of Windows based programs needed for departmentfunctions.
  • Basic keyboarding and skill is desirable, but notrequired, in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and insearch capabilities on the internet.
  • Must have access to reliabletransportation to travel between multiple work sites; and travel isrequired in order to perform essential duties.

Job-Specific Competency 1.Evaluates patients based ondepartmental standard. 2.Conducts and modifies evaluations based onthe patient’s symptoms, level of activity, and medical statusestablishing individualized, appropriate, measurable goals for eachpatient. 3.Treats patients with the appropriate and acceptabletherapeutic exercises (strength, endurance, coordination, and ROM).4.Administers physical agents (modalities) and manual therapeutictechnique to relieve pain and/or attain established goals.5.Utilizes effective techniques to assist in normalizing motoractivity and learning. 6.Educates patients/families in homeexercise programs and/or functional activities in order to maximizeindependent functional activity. 7.Determines when a patient hasachieved maximal benefit from treatment and recommends discharge ifappropriate. 8.Documents in accordance to insurance guidelines andadheres to the department’s policies and procedures. 9.Seeks andfosters interdepartmental communication and communication with thereferring physician regarding patient care as evidenced byobservation, and chart review. 10.Accurately and consistently fillsout and submits charges daily. 11.Adheres to the professional codeof ethics established by the APTA and the facility at all times asevidenced by observation. 12.Performs all duties with proper bodymechanics and safety to prevent injuries. 13.Supervises at leastone affiliated student per year 14.Attends a continuing educationcourse to further/improve treatment techniques. 15.Participates inat least one departmental in-service, or community in-service asevidenced by documentation of educational program.
