Description:
Assists withproviding safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing allexams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge andability to properly and safely obtain quality diagnostic studies.
Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical proceduresrequiring independent judgment and initiative in the utilization ofequipment for diagnosis and treatment. Able to independentlyperform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imagingservices and positions patients for procedures. Must maintainminimum
FDA/MQSA
requirements for continuing education, experience,and equipment.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Patient Care:
Obtains complete clinical history, gathersexamination data, and assesses contraindicating conditions. Ensuresthat all studies have proper patient identification and thatmarkers are utilized appropriately. Reviews images for clinicallyacceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergencysituations. Uses critical thinking skills. Seeks clarification onambiguous orders. Assists other technologists in all modalities asneeded. Observes patient conditions and evaluates situations fornecessary physician intervention. Verifies two unique patientidentifiers per policy and confirms proper clinician orders beforeprocedures. Ensures patient privacy and comfort. Demonstratescompetence in determining and applying appropriate procedures,equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age.
Understands and documents pre-procedure verification and time-outprocesses as applicable. Organizes schedule, time, and prioritiesto accomplish required activities within designated time frames.
Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures andexams. Practices RBAC (Read Back and Confirm) for verbal orders.
Equipment:
Demonstrates ability to adjust techniques for optimalimaging quality. Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriatepersonnel. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment according toinfection control policies. Operates all radiographic equipmentsafely and competently.
Education and Communication:
Clearlyexplains the purpose and nature of exams to patients to minimizeanxiety and facilitate cooperation. Ensures that patient questionsand concerns are satisfactorily addressed, notifying the physicianwhen necessary. Participates in the orientation and training ofdepartmental employees. Provides patients with preparatoryinstructions and explanations of procedures. Ensures documentationis concise and uses precise terminology. Reads departmentalcommunications regularly and follows through with assignments.
Completes mandatory education without prompting.
Quality Control:
Produces acceptable images and maintains a high first-timeacceptance rate. Ensures equipment is operational before each use.
Completes all studies in the system, ensuring proper orientation,marking, and labeling. Maintains documentation to meetaccreditation standards. Knowledgeable in completing anddocumenting quality control tests as applicable.
Operations:
Restocks linens and supplies and maintains the department in anorderly condition. Transports and positions patients, assisting asneeded. Performs patient charging activities on service days.
Applies shielding and maintains patient follow-up data. Willinglyassists others and performs routine duties as needed to ensurecontinuity. Keeps supervisors informed of responsibilities andpotential issues. Maintains an individual productivity rate in linewith co-workers. Familiar with mammography tracking systems andapplicable regulatory standards. Fulfills other duties as assigned.
Complies with all relevant policies, standards of work, and codesof conduct. Exhibits excellent communication skills for effectivecollaboration with all stakeholders. Functions independently andunder pressure while participating in a team. Demonstratesexcellent customer service skills. Prioritizes tasks effectivelyand multitasks throughout the work shift. Interacts professionallywith patients, families, co-workers, and physicians. Possesses anunderstanding of anatomy and pathology related to procedurequality.
