Must exhibit excellent communication skills as this positionrequires frequent verbal and written communications withphysicians, patients, visitors, departmental staff, and nursingstaff. Must possess the ability to function independently and underpressure while still actively participating in a team environment.

Must be compliant, with a willingness to follow all policies aswell as the established practices, protocols, and procedures of theposition and department. Competent in all aspects of diagnosticradiology, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiationprotection. Must have an understanding of anatomy and pathology asto how they affect the quality of a procedure.

Description:

Must beflexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must bedependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providingsafe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all examsaccording to department procedures. Has the knowledge and abilityto properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.

Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical proceduresrequiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative inutilizing equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment. Able toindependently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment toprovide imaging services and positions patients for procedures.

Acts as a clinical coordinator for imaging students. Fills outstudent rotation evaluations honestly and ethically. Ability toprovide constructive criticism to students during their rotation.

Functions as a clinical instructor for students rotating throughthe imaging department. Obtains complete clinical history, gathersexamination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions.

Follows established procedures for the administration of contrastmedia to ensure patient safety. Ensures that all studies haveproper patient identification and utilizes right and left markersappropriately. Reviews radiographic images for clinicallyacceptable results and releases patients accordingly. Responds toemergency situations and ensures crash carts are restocked and lifesupport equipment is maintained. Assists other technologists in allmodalities when needed. Observes patient condition and properlyevaluates situations for physician intervention as necessary.

Verifies two unique patient identifiers and the correct clinicalorder prior to performing procedures per policy. Ensures patientprivacy and comfort are accommodated. Demonstrates competence inthe determination and application of appropriate procedures,equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age. Organizesschedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activitieswithin designated time frames. Follows physician instructions whenassisting with procedures and exams. Utilizes critical thinkingskills and seeks clarification on any ambiguous orders.

Understands, demonstrates, and documents pre-proceduralverification and Time Out processes when appropriate. Demonstratesand understands pre-and post-procedural care and prepares thepatient for procedures. Maintains competency with venipuncture,where applicable. Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique toensure patient safety while maintaining image quality. Reportsissues with malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor for timelyresolution. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment accordingto infection control policies and departmental schedules. Able tooperate all radiographic equipment in a safe and competent manner.

Patiently explains the purpose and nature of exams to patientsprior to procedures to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation.

Ensures patient questions, concerns, or contraindications aresatisfactorily addressed. Participates in the orientation andtraining of departmental employees. Provides patients withpreparatory instructions and explanations of procedures.

Documentation must be concise, legible, and use preciseterminology. Consistently produces high-quality images withappropriate collimation, shielding, technique selection,penetration, and positioning. Ensures equipment is operationalprior to each use by checking for proper calibration and operatingdeficiencies. Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining clean andorderly conditions in the imaging services area. Transports andpositions patients, assisting them on and off procedure tables asrequired. Performs patient charging activities on the same day asthe service is rendered. Applies shielding, supportive, andimmobilization devices and equipment. Willingly lends knowledge andassistance to others as needed. Performs routine clerical andsupport duties when warranted to ensure continuity and quality ofservices. Keeps supervisors informed about responsibilities andpromptly notifies them of any issues. Maintains an individualproductivity rate comparable to coworkers. Adheres to regulatoryagency standards. Performs other duties as assigned.
